  • The degradation of American freedoms and the abuse of our election system is definitely a both sides, where many things aren't. Neither party wants to lose power by opening up ranked choice or modern election systems and both parties prefer the power of the state over the power of the people.

  • The US hasn't had a domestic war since the civil war. How many wars has Europe had domestically since then? Hmmm.

US citizens are powerless to the machine that was built generations ago. We vote between corporate funded warhawks or more liberal corporate funded warhawks. Personally I like the idea of not helping Europe much in future wars, we have more than enough problems of our own. But as much as Europeans hate America for their military prowess, I hate us for it too because we're all paying for it in human suffering.

We're policing the world and neglecting our people and it isn't sustainable. If you need to fight for freedom, start your own military dominance. But fuck war. Americans mostly just want to live peaceful lives but bring a land war here and it'll get lit.

  • Even then there was talk that they didn't have the D votes to pass it. Nowhere near. I guess the world is changing though, healthcare is such a shit show currently that a bunch of my Republican friends and family support Medicare for all now.

  • That's not really a good sign for the economy. It means the marketplace is a valid option today. It was a pretty awful option in the past. But it means our broken system of relying on companies to provide health insurance is still broken. Companies aren't taking care of people. Medicare for all! (why couldn't Obama Dems have just done that instead?)

  • Yeah probably 17th century - confirmed as early as 1703 but expected to have existed earlier. So I was definitely wrong. But how do we know it wasn't invented thousands of years earlier and forgotten? But yeah, not in Jesus' time.

  • I'm already starting to migrate my small office. Two PCs done, a handful of others to go. I have probably three that I'll run Windows 11 for software compatibility, and another three Mac's for different software.

Who remembers "Windows 10 will be our last operating system'?" I remember. Fuck Microsoft. Fuck Macs too though.

  • Holy shit I work with helping underresourced people and shit is bad. It's hitting at least half the population. The homelessness is out of control and the cost of basic needs far exceeds wages. You need like five incomes per household or just be a rich asshole.

  • I'm not bought in to this train of thought but I know many who are. I would say that I don't think most people on the right think the protest was an attempt to overthrow the government though. They think it was a protest of what they perceived to be a stolen election. Obviously there were people involved with more nefarious intent though.

I know exactly one person who was there (that I know of), she's a sweet retired little old lady who bought into the stolen election rhetoric and just went there to protest. Which is protected speech and shouldn't be demonized as a blanket as if everyone there wanted to overthrow the govt.

Attempting to overthrow the govt doesn't actually pale to what happened in Seattle but the level of violence involved actually did.
