  • It's not the best outcome because if we let the Dems split, it'll be between fascists and neocons again, and we'll end up back where we started. Leftists need to start organizing now so that we can shift the Overton Window left, because if we wait for Dems to fracture the window will keep shifting right.

  • You say you drink it regularly, have you ever tried to stop? If you suddenly experience headaches and shakes after, I've bad news for you.

The thing is, caffeine addiction is so heavily normalized and encouraged by our capitalist society that most people do not realize they're addicted. They consume caffeinated products with enough regularity that they never crave it, and you're only ever encouraged to stop if you develop a health issue.

  • There's a really great video by Filmcow that explains how hope is a poison for the mind. I think we're living in a pretty hopeless world, and trying to desperately cling to the pretense that things will change without action from ourselves is dangerous and naive. If there's something about the world that you passionately want to change and you're not working to correct it, you will only disappoint yourself by hoping someone else will change it for you. Give up hope and embrace action.

  • It was never going to surpass Windows or MacOS, but it has been steadily growing in usage rate. I think now it's at 5% of the market, largely off the back of Valve's Steam Decks which may or may not count as desktop by your definition.

It's just too technical to catch on for mainstream users, and that's honestly fine. I think everyone would prefer Linux offer freedom instead of simplicity.

  • They could! They probably won't, because they haven't for every other election I've been alive for, and my exposure to college students has been that they're very passionate about the Israel genocide and unsatisfied with Harris' position, but it is possible!

I don't even care about the result anymore, I just want this goddamn election to be over.

  • I mean the clear and obvious answer is that the Democratic Party didn't plan for shit. Their plan was running Biden again with their only platform being "We're Not Trump." In the years since January 6th, they've done nothing to safeguard our democracy, while Republicans have fervently planned for a coup.

  • Too long can't watch, are the stability issues and major bugs all cleared? at least to the level of general stability that Fallout 4 offers? I'd be interested in giving this project another go, but had a real rough time on launch.

  • Then offer better downloads? FitGirl's repacks exist because some people have incredibly shitty ISPs that impose harsh data caps with dogshit speeds. Downloading an uncompressed 70gb game is just not going to happen, what do these companies suggest people do? Purchase their games and never successfully download them?

  • I mean, the massive number of racists who are currently trying to elect a fascist would disagree, and I think many minority groups would disagree that there haven't been problems in the very recent past.

Certainly, the fault lies in the racists, but we can't pretend that is not a problem directly caused by having an ethnically diverse country. It's one that we'll need to find a solution for, because otherwise we'll always have a group who is willing to burn democracy to the ground because they hate people who have a different skin color.

  • I mean, I don't want to be too rude but look at the European democracies who are typically praised in contrast to the U.S. Their populations have been significantly more ethnically homogenous, and only recently have they begun to deal with significant immigrant populations of differently colored peoples. How have they done? Immediate rise of far-right groups and tons of anti-immigrant propoganda.

I'm not claiming the Greeks were right, I think they had a small-minded view of what diversity could bring them, but it is an interesting observation.

  • I just refuse to believe this will work. Harris' plan is seriously to try and court die-hard "Always-Republicans" by hoping that the group who chooses a candidate because it's what their parents voted for will have the critical thinking skills to realize Donald Trump is unfit for the presidency.

Meanwhile, every little thing like this makes it harder and harder for leftists to stomach her. None of this motivates any Democrats to go to the polls and cast a vote for her. You can criticize a lot about Trump's campaign, but they're focused on the only thing that matters; energizing their supporters to vote.

  • Of course, where else would you shoot someone after you've already captured them and made sure they weren't a threat? Honestly it's almost wholesome that they're offering the children a clean death, I'm sure many of the Israeli soldiers would prefer to do much worse. The war crimes they've gleefully filmed themselves committing have shown me that the IDF is made entirely of fucking animals.

  • I know there wasn't exactly much else to go off of at the time, but it still blows my mind that the American Founding Fathers looked at an empire that collapsed largely due to political corruption and thought "oh yeah, this is what we gotta use!"
