  • No, in my experience people like that just end up trolling me because they have no frame of reference and don't care about reality. You can't troll somebody with math if they reject the idea of learning anything about or using math.

  • This is exactly why I was railing against some of the earlier protests which featured politicians openly asking protestors to take out their phones and send texts to opt-in for fundraisers. Besides all the obvious bullshit, it put those protestors who didn't know better at serious risk.

Thankfully, I haven't seen too much of that at the protests I've been to recently, but this is a good reminder that we have to keep educating people to leave their phone at home.

  • obviously, I doubt Rutte was expecting this message to be shared. If he wasn't a complete moron and actually doing this just to stroke his own ego, I'd actually give Donald props for leaking it, as Rutte kissing Donald's ass makes him look terrible, and more broadly makes the European parts of NATO look terrible.

I imagine Rutte's intent is to stroke Trump's ego to try and keep him interested in NATO, but I feel like that's a fool's errand. Trump doesn't give a shit about anyone else but himself. This new agreement, with NATO signatories needing to commit 5% of their GDP, feels like a grift for the benefit of U.S. defense contractors. The U.S. cannot be trusted to actually honor their agreements anymore, so why pay more into their alliance? Is Europe really that scared of further Russian aggression?

  • Honest to god, the U.S. propoganda sphere is unmatched. So much of that list is fully kept out of American schools, and the few bits they acknowledge are so whitewashed and sanitized that we could realistically call them fictional accounts. The average American legitimately does not know half of the fucked up things this country has done, which is why most of them still think the problem is Donald Trump, and not all of U.S. society.

Perhaps the greatest kicker is that Americans will criticize regimes like Russia and China for brainwashing their citizens with a straight face, so blissfully unaware of their own conditioning.
