Wow, what phone is still working fine after 9 years????
I feel like 5 years is generally the upper limit of usage due to battery issues, spontaneous hardware failure, slowness due to advancing tech standards, etc. A user serviceable device would be able to help with some of these things but still...
People have told me that I'm good with kids too. But here's the thing...it's actually super easy to give a child attention and follow them around for several hours. I'm not sure why people praise me for it. I guess because some people don't care enough to give the kids the time of day or something?
But the not easy part is the taking care of them eternally thing. Parenting through meltdowns...always being there 24/7/365 with no breaks...having to always feed and clean them...etc. The list goes on.
I know it's dark to say, but one of the things I fear I'd do is end up with one of those parents who is driven crazy and inadvertently kills their child from shaken baby syndrome.
Yeah, whenever people describe what it's like to have children or whenever I happen to observe it for myself, it looks like literal hell on earth. People try to choose their words carefully to not say how miserable they are, but I can see it. You can't even sleep anymore. Sleep deprivation is literally a torture technique.
And I mean...I get that some people have to have kids in order for the human race to continue to exist. And I'm glad my parents had me and that I got to experience life. But I just don't know that I could do that myself. I don't think that I could selflessly endure torture every day for years and years just to try to help another human being survive. I would like to think that I am a giving person, but not to that degree.
Occasionally I have tried doing this, but it never ends well for me. My hair doesn't get crazy greasy if I don't wash it every day, but I do develop a lot of dandruff if I skip washing days too often. I have the opposite pattern of the person in the video. Reducing the number of shampoo sessions I get without fail causes me to develop dandruff.
Also, this past year I have picked up running. If I didn't wash my hair after my runs, I'd probably smell disgusting in no time.
I don't think there's a one size fits all solution for everyone in these sorts of things.
Do you think it's a modern phone thing? I used to always be able to feel my phone vibrating. But when I got a new phone several years back, I was frustrated to find that I couldn't feel the damn thing vibrating in my pocket and I'd miss calls and texts.
Yeah I don't get what the issue is with notification sounds.
I'm not sure what it is, but ever since I got a more modern phone, the vibration motor has just gotten so weak compared to older phones I've used. I legitimately do not feel my phone vibrating in my pocket.
So when I'm at work, if I'm expecting a message, I actually have to turn the sound on and listen for it as opposed to feel it vibrating. I hardly get any notifications tho.
I'm in the US and I recently paid for a car with a cashier's check as well. I was tipped off by the salesman. Evidently at that dealer they charge you a service fee for paying with a card or similar method. Paying by cash or check incurred zero fees.
How have you never seen a check at 30? I'm also 30 and I receive checks now and then, and I used to occasionally have to write them. At least here in the US, most jobs give you a paper check for your first check when you just started for some reason instead of that one going to your direct deposit. I also on occasion get a refund check of some sort in the mail. I've had to occasionally write a paper check to things like an apartment complex or utility service. It's become significantly less common tho in 2025, but I still keep paper checks with my other important documents just in case.
Several years back when I was living in the northeast US, our local utility company was stuck in the dark ages. It didn't have an online payment portal!
Fax machines have been built into copiers/printers for years now. That is...many printers have faxing capabilities. In the medical field, people send faxes all the time. But I've never seen a dedicated fax machine, myself.
Actually that part is a legitimate classification and not part of the AI nonsense. Broadly, lung cancers are classified as either "small cell" cancers or "non small cell" cancers based on how the tumor appears microscopically. The "non small cell" cancers can be further subdivided into various types.
The reason for this distinction between the two is due to the significant difference in clinical management and prognosis. Having "small cell" lung cancer is effectively a death sentence, whereas the other types are a lot more treatable.
I'm not Olympian by any means, but this makes me feel a bit better about my running. I've never really run before but I have been trying to do it semi consistently since March. For whatever reason, while I've been able to run longer and longer distances, I never seem to be able to run much faster. I tried a couple of times the other week and I almost threw up after one of them lol. I think I'm just going to have to accept that I'm a slow runner! I like running at my own comfortable pace better. Idk.
In some places, people also give out phones to the needy because of how cheap they are. Somehow my mom's boyfriend got one despite him not being poor...I think it's because he's old and retired.
I don't even think physical activity helps. I started trying to run in March. I still do it relatively consistently, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I have no suggestions. Other things I do are turn to alcohol, harm myself, or act like a crazy person around people. None of it helps lmao.
There are certain degree paths where it will net you a specific career path. The healthcare field is very particular about the specific degree/certification/licensure you have. In that regard, schooling makes sense for those.
This is only tangentially related, but I just wanted to share a random anecdote.
I ordered a mobile pickup order at my local Taco Bell with their app. Since it's nearby, I walked there and I had selected in store pickup. I walked inside and waited for a few moments. The manager comes out and this interaction happens.
Manager: "Inside was supposed to be closed. Idk who unlocked the door but you have to go through the drive through"
Me: "Oh uhh I already paid for an in store pickup through the app."
Manager: "You have to go through the drive through."
Me: "Uhhh....can I walk through the drive through? I walked here."
The manager looks at me in total disbelief that someone would do that. "You don't have a car???"
Me: "I mean I just walked here."
Manager: "Ok hold on I'll get your order."
Lol. She looked at me like she had never heard of anyone walking some place to get some food lol. Granted I live literally a 5 minute walk from there which is probably not really the norm.
