  • I think your best bet would be to go to the local Democratic party. You don't have the cash to contest this; they do. They also (depending on the local laws) probably have local officials on the local elections boards, so they are in the best position to evaluate your claims. There may be a simple explanation....

  • "we have never employed bounty hunters. And you are a horrible human for implying that. We do use armed security contractors, who we pay a stipend for each illegal collected for deportation. Not the same thing at all, which any patriotic American can see. In fact, you are unamerican for even thinking it. Off to the Everglades you go!"

  • Or, Democrats do what they do best -- not listen to their voters -- and the new party comes to power by merging the Nationalists that are in Musk's camp with the Socialists that the Democrats always ignore. Maybe they'll even merge those two names together to describe the new party....

  • Interesting, I didn't know this at all. Thanks for the links.

But I wonder how much longer this program can be kept up, now that this administration has made it clear they want all these people to leave, and will dispatch masked thugs to do so. Seems like applying for one of these TINs now is basically putting a sign on your back saying "Deport Me!"

  • People who are in the country illegally do not have authorization to work. You can't tax them at all, at least officially, without giving them the authorization to work.

Now, of course these folks are working, and either getting paid without their employers declaring them, or paying them and withholding taxes with fraudulent identities, both of which are illegal for the employer as well as the employee. So, unofficially, they may be paying taxes, but if the authorities knew they were illegal they would probably be deported, especially in today's hyper ICE environment.

A solution like you propose would acknowledge the basic humanity of these people, which is against everything the ruling party here stands for. So it will never happen.

(Edit: see the replies downstream, most of my post is uneducated bullshit)

  • I'm expecting that UFC fight to have at least one fight on the undercard that pits two ICE detainees against each other. Winner gets permanent residency (and gets to go back to their family). Loser goes straight to the Everglades. I bet they even detain fly their families in for the fight so you see the crushed look on the losers' kids when they realize they will never see their parent again. (It will sell even more on TV if the fighters are pregnant women....)

  • Today's Republicans say they want to follow the Founders' intent, but it's all a lie. There are only two reasons why they have this Founder fetish:

    1. It is always convenient to be able to base rulings on the opinions of people who have been dead for hundreds of years, because you can't ask them what they really think. I think the Founders would have had a lot to say about today's Christian Nationalists, most of it uncharitable.
    2. Their endgame has always been to call a Constitutional Convention, and rewrite the whole thing from scratch. Poof! Now they are the New Founders, and Precedent says they will be fetishized for another 250+ years. Imagine US History buffs of the future scrutinizing the essential writings of the new Founding Fathers: McConnell, Roberts, MTG, Sean Hannity. Future armchair historians will analyze Trump social media posts like they are the Federalist Papers! Maybe someone will make an epic musical out of them....
