  • nyc primaries have terrible voter turnout, somewhere between 20-30% of registered dem voters in the city. Mamdani did get a record number of voters out to the polls but Cuomo’s camp is thinking they can reinvigorate the other 70% of dems who sat this primary out. So yes, Cuomo is banking on this but I hope his highly paid pol consultants are very wrong.

  • Alright I appreciate this but on mobile this isn’t always a convenient option. Mod removals should link to this automatically and be more transparent for why comments were removed in the first place. All I see is aggressive tactics and in this day and age speech should be protected first before automatic censorship.

  • My comment was something like “this is purely hyperbole but more brave Americans should hold ice to account” in the post about the 10 arrested folks in Texas. I’m not being pedantic I genuinely feel if a person lives in a fascist state then the individual has a right to hold the state to account for actions the state commits. I don’t see why I need to kowtow and sympathize with ICE… I just don’t know how else to describe my feelings.

  • Okay thanks I will take your word that those “violent comments” were there, since you hold all the evidence. I’m an adult and know if calls for violence go too far, I don’t need a mod to hide stuff from me and delete and lock comments without explanation.

  • Yea Yucca mountain is a sad tale. A lack of community engagement and politics ruined what was other wise a geotechnically sound design. Having a national repository for a nation as large as the US might be impractical in retrospect especially involving interstate rail transport. I think local containment of waste is key to reduce shipping costs and trailing the waste through developed areas. That requires planning a nuclear site near a geological repository which might not be part of design plans.

Also that NM repository I haven’t heard of, will be reading more

  • I endorse nuclear power and am enjoying the second look it is getting now but as a geologist I ask where the nuclear waste will go. No one ever wants to talk about it and there is really easy solution, the deep subsurface (miles below the ground). It’s safe, cheap, and Finland has shown how it’s done.

This is part of a broader issue in preparing our next generations for jobs of the future. To build out this infrastructure you need smart technical people to make it work and ask the tough questions, but I know this administration doesn’t care about that.

  • Dem establishment is so afraid and out of touch they think this will move the needle, maybe it will maybe it won’t, for better or for worse, all I know if further alienates me and probably other newyawkers that want to vote dem but absolutely hate every candidate that is propped up by money.

  • Either Iran negotiates some more, digs into nuclear weapon development, has regime change, or things go to shit more broadly. Same 4 options that were available before and these strikes do nothing but make things worse for every party involved. Just more Trump machismo, best I can hope is that it’s 3 strikes and we are out… but I really doubt it.

  • I went to a FIFA club World Cup match at MetLife Stadium in NJ this week and saw our brave gestapo at work patrolling the stadium. My immigrant friend brought all his papers and was worried to even change seats in an empty stadium for fear that was enough to deport him.

  • John Brown has been on my mind a lot, truly one of the greatest Americans to live, and he aptly said after Harper’s Ferry “I am quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood. I had, as I now think vainly, flattered myself that without very much bloodshed it might be done.”

  • The massive cock slobbering that Warren Buffet got at his Woodstock of Capitalism last week was nauseating. All the media were fawning over how he’s still a small-town Nebraska bumpkin. I have to hand it to him he crafted his image perfectly as a “good billionaire” too.

  • It’s difficult notion to wrestle with… I never like showing my patriotism and I always read American history very critically (thanks Howard Zinn!) but it’s also the only country I’ve lived in and will probably stay in for the rest of my life. I’m inspired that change can happen (even if it’s bad) in this country and even if is a long and hard path, I guess I can’t say I’ve given up yet. I also have two kids so I gotta try to give them something better.

  • When I protested a couple weeks ago a few people yelled at me at that I didn’t love America… the irony would be hilarious if it wasn’t reflecting a sad reality.

Truth is, Trumpists absolutely do not like free speech.

How to effectively protest outside my House representative's office
