125,000 Canadians move to the US each year for a better life - our best people! My neighbour moved to Texas in December and wished she'd made the move a long time ago. There's bigger everything - larger homes, larger pay, better disposable incomes, more vibrancy, better weather and better people

Dog hotel could either refer to a doggy daycare place or a hotel that allows pets, I'm assuming the former based on what they said.

I recognize this is a super idealistic approach, but this is just a "general concept of how a society should run."

Yes, I'm taking into account hunting. We shouldn't be killing non-human animals either. Sports is a more difficult problem to tackle for me, I recognize others like shooting for sporting events, and it's not causing harm inherently. Might even be safer than American football, lol.

Having said that, a more realistic approach would be a gun buy back program and a slow phase out of guns for our police or at least a reduction / demilitarization of our police. I have no hope that this will happen, but wow, it'd be nice.

Just got a job that is fully remote, and I think I need to start doing this a few times a month. I could do a half day at a local happy hour or something. It's oppressively lonely as is.

What a despicable way to respond to a well reasoned and compassionate comment.

I get that inner reflection is difficult, I really do. But if someone's message hits you in a particularly poignant way, responding with cruelty just doesn't seem helpful for anyone involved. I hope you're able to grow past it and hold a mirror to yourself.

I believe there is a possible, though highly improbable future (or, more likely alien world) that exists where it is moral to create sentience because there is significantly less suffering. Where sentient beings care for the well-being of each other.

Sometimes, it's not about changing their mind, but influencing the many others who are less certain in their beliefs who are just reading along.

Or didn't have the critical thinking to understand that even though it's not exactly the same methods - cattle cars, gas chambers, death marches, concentration camps - It's still the same thing.
