MFA was one of my fave subs so I decided to check out what happened since this forced reopening. The pinned thread asking for mod volunteers is being trolled right now. I love it.
Every other day, I get over how mad I was about the whole spez thing, and just focus on bettering our community and Lemmy in general.
But then they do something again that immediately remind me how much of an asshole he is. Last week, it was them taking out the coins and awards. Now this week, it's introducing r/Places like nothing happened and we're all friends again. Fuck him.
I'm one of the many who deactivated not too long after it launched. My dashboard was just being filled with so many users (mostly celebrities and influencers) who I don't recall ever following or even being on my sphere of interest. It doesn't help that their posts are inorganic attempts to spur engagement.
I expect awards to be the next big addition to this platform. Not necessarily purchasable through coins (that will come in the future) but perhaps an option available to every user that you can use once every three months.
VPN. I bought it during the pandemic not for privacy or government spy conspiracy shit, but because it was on "sale" (something like $40 for 38 months or something) and I wanted to try out if skirting geoblock was worth it. It's now probably one of the most-used tech we have in the house. Great for running Max obviously but also for work.
On the other hand, it's great that some instances have file size limits. It forces users to look at these image hosts instead of them just recklessly uploading images into the servers as if Lemmy is housed in a Palo Alto facility.
Once they learn patriarchy and PHDs, they could be kings of the real world.
