Oh my bad. I did realize you're one of the 12ish people that can do that. Can you imagine not having that ability and sympathize with people who don't have that ability? If not, we don't really have any common ground to stand on.
The current way we coerce (by threatening starvation and homelessness) is not the only way to make people do things. I agree that free everything forever with sprinkles is probably not going to work or allow us to maintain our current quality of life (I too like pop-tarts medicine, and computers). It's not a binary. There are options in between that can be used to motivate people to do even unpleasant things.
I think we coerce way to much and I think a lot of coercion that we do benefits only a few people and not the many.
The question that remains is can anything be saved that will resemble our civilization?
Yes, giant geo engineering projects will kill way less people than runaway global warning. Let's do the Matrix movie thing where we covered our planet in continuous cloud cover. \s
I agree with most of the things you are saying, but without some kind of policy to either give artist more power or money during the transition it sounds a lot like the "Some of you may die, but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make" meme.
I see you are saying that you don't want the artists to starve, but the only things I see you proposing would make them starve. Even if it is for the "greater good".
Edit: It would help me feel more comfortable with your statements if you were to propose UBI or something like that so the artists have a solid ground to keep making good art and then let the AIs grow from that. Or just let the process happen. Let Artists sue companies, let laws get created that slow down the process of AI development. There is no need to make human sacrifice here. AI will get developed either way.
It only becomes a problem if it is "good enough" to replace working artists. Companies have shown time and time again that they would be willing to cut corners for cheaper production costs. Hollywood would happily sell us AI generated stuff if we were willing to buy it. So consumers would really need to care and push back hard against AI art for artists to remain employed. I don't see it happening.
Yes, I agree. I don't see how that makes the information any less important. If Lemmy or Twitter was going to shutdown tomorrow I would want to hear about it.
If you are thinking of building a brand on twitter (or X) or have an existing brand, it is important to know that twitter (or X) are willing just take your name away from you if they feel like it without recourse.
Of course it is always technically possible to take a user name. But most sites make it clear that they wont risk damaging brands by protecting against fake clones and allowing companies to keep their user names. That is why it is news.
I get it. I was a new leftist once too. Hoping there was some way I could push the system such that we would reach our leftist utopia before I die. But the reality is harsh. We're not going to fix this in our lifetimes and we're going to suffer for it, and that's okay.
Let's put political power in where we can and prepare the next generations of leftist to be successful.
A revolution only works when we have agreement on a large enough scale to be successful. We are not there yet. Consolidating ideologies only going to hurt us at this point.
Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't. This is the first post I have seen pointing out a flaw in PHP on Reddit or Lemmy. If you ask me JavaScript gets it the worst out of all of the languages. I don't see those guys whining.
What I will say is that the majority of PHP developers I interact with on this post has led me to believe that there is a number of PHP developers that take things way to personally that they really shouldn't. Seriously you guys aren't doing your language any favors. No one's going to want to join the whine club.
