  • I'm glad to see that he is learning in prison, talking and working through things. This really is the point of prisons: not just a place to keep people but a place to reform them.

Anyone of us could become a criminal given the right pressures and circumstances. I wish all prisons would reform and educate their inmates and that they come out as better people who can live a peaceful and productive life.

  • Wrong. According to the companies who pay for iOS and Android exploits in other to make tools like Pegasus, they say it is far harder to get a working android exploit than it is too get a working iOS exploit and as a result they pay more for Android exploits because ios exploits are far more common.

Why is this? Because Google has an Android security team that actively seeks exploits and patches them and Google also invites people to Hackathons and pays them for exploits.

Android is now harder than iOS.

  • The problem is that 3rd parties are doing the packaging both on Snap and Flatpak whereas if they had followed proper security practice ONLY THE REAL DEV should ever be allowed to package their app as a Flatpak or Snap.

This would ensure security, as well as a proper functioning flatpak/snap and also all feedback would be directed to the Dev.

I've never liked the fact that Canonical and whoever can make Snaps and Flatpaks of other people's software. There is zero security guarantee, zero guarantee they'll update it and zero guarantee it will work.

Just because Snap and Flatpak exist doesn't mean just anyone should be able to just make them.

If Valve only chooses to make a deb then so be it! It's their product!

  • Yes, very good. It's made them stronger and better than ever. If they can find a good solution to the Gapps issue they could sell in the West.

  • Backup and do a fresh install

  • Backup your data. Download the correct Debian and burn to usb. Do a fresh install. Make sure to format the disk first.

Unless you're dual booting in which case only format the Linux partition

  • It would have been Huawei occupying this spot a few years ago already but after Trump blocked Google from giving them access to Gapps and selling in the US, they lost massive market share.

But they were well on track to overtake everyone. And they are actually on the rise again, even without Gapps so let's see what happens next

  • Hardware is the same across the board. PC's have equally good hardware.. Literally only the aluminium body is still unique to apple but the internal components are the same as any other OEM.

I work in IT, so I've seen alot of hardware from many OEMs including Apple.

I've had 15+ year old PCs running XP on the same box and still being used daily to run a CNC machine... They can't be replaced because the software was never updated by the developer to run on anything else. But the hardware is rock solid.

  • No. The regular version is fine and gets updated more often. For people who want their system not updated so often, the Debian edition only gets a new base every 2-3 years

  • All the distros are Linux, they are identical underneath basically. Mint is Ubuntu. You don't think advanced users use Ubuntu? Ever heard of The Enterprise?

All I'm saying is that it's NOT ONLY a newbie distro. It suitable for all levels.

  • Exactly. It should say "lease" instead of "buy" or just "price" .

They know that too but you know why they don't use "lease"? They would have WAY less sales. Almost no one would click that.

So they use "buy"/"price" to make you think you own it, and then think they are clever when they define it as "buying a licence" in the Terms.

That's plain and sneaky so I don't feel sorry for them when people pirate stuff.

I wish every dev had the option of "go to my website and buy this from me with an eternal licence included" as well as the option to lease it from the Play Store.

Same goes for music and movies.

  • No it's not just a phase. Mint really is very good which is why it's very popular and widely regarded as the overall best distro whether beginner or advanced user.

The team really do make it their goal to have a user friendly, capable OS that helps you instead of hinders you.

I use Linux Mint Debian Edition because I'm done with Ubuntu but the Ubuntu based mint is still excellent compared to Ubuntu itself.

  • I'm pretty sure that most people won't be able to tell the difference between 5 and 6.

Seems like minor changes to me.

I once did enjoy KDE but always hated the font, icons and everything in the UI is lines. Makes it hard to comprehend things quickly.

In the end I realised the Gnome-based UI is far better for legibility and comprehension. I'm on Linux Mint Debian Edition with Cinnamon and it's great.

  • Yes but the android phone will still work fine for at least the next decade and all apps on the play store will still work on that phone for the next decade.

On apple, if you never update your phone, eventually you won't be able to update or install apps because they require a version on iOS you're not on. We don't have this problem on android. Most android apps can run on Android 6 and up.

We are now on Android 14. 6 was a very long time ago.....

  • Literally any PC made in the last decade will run Linux like a champ. It has nothing to do with it being made by Apple

  • I must try that. Thanks 👍

  • Does it have to be a laptop? You'll get better hardware and performance on a desktop plus a better screen and seating position.
