Both California and Texas are massive - larger than many countries. There is no one culture for either. I don't think we have enough information to give you an answer.

The lemmy devs don't want this to happen. I think they removed (or are going to remove) the API for getting total score. All the apps recently removed that feature, so you can't even check without adding up all of votes on someone's comments/posts.

The devs didn't. Upper management did. And the devs are paying for it.

I'm in Texas, and I wore short sleeves outside yesterday. That's kind of normal for us, though. It's still funny to think about. I only moved here 3 years ago, so I'm still adjusting to how short our winters are.
