  • True, whenever I see "social media" brought up though I'm always picturing Facebook, Twitter, Myspace. This and reddit and forums definitely are a form of though. Even bbs back in the day.

I tend to divide them based on how much they want to manipulate and sell me shit. Also how much of my personal info they require.

  • It's a race for external validation and bragging and painting a false image of your life, and for you to keep in touch with anyone you ever met that you never will keep in touch with. If you take a few steps back you see how truly useless it is, unless, of course, you're meta or Microsoft or whoever is just siphoning all your valuable data and selling you shit that you don't need by manipulating you.

  • Bsd is a complete package and tested as such. All the software and everything. It's like windows, when it's released you install it and you get wordpad, edge, calculator etc. Bsd is the same that way. Linux is just a kernel, with the distributions bolting on the gnu software. I know it sounds kinda the same but it's not.

Also the license. With Linux I think you need to cite it's use and you can't charge for something build with it (of course there's exceptions, like packages you create do not need to be for example), but bsd license is the most permissive. You can charge a customer for it and dress it up however you want.

    No systemd.

    There's some other stuff too

  • It's kinda scary that cars are no different now than software these days with all this "agile development"

Code it. "it's stable!". Don't do much testing. Bug reports come in. Fix.

All sounds like beta software to me. Just what I want to put my life in the hands of.
