  • people misspeak. all the time. even people who are paid to talk for a living. it happen. so biden said a wrong name. it wasn't malicious and nothing of serious consequence took place and I don't think it's a biden issue mainly because biden has never made his cognition or other mental capacities an issue.

why is this different than from when trump does the same thing? trump has made his mental capacity a central part of his campaign. in effect, mental capability of the candidates is only an issue for one of the candidates, and it's the one who always brings it up. it's exactly the same as someone who makes (white christian) morality a central part of their legislative history and then it's found out that they have a long-term homosexual affair. no one cares they have a gay lover but since they make an issue about it people care that this specific person has an affair.

  • the republican congress is causing all of this chaos, but because their republican congressperson isn't the one making this mess they will be reelected back to congress.

I was once told to never blame the voters, blame the elected people. yeah, no fuck that. I absolutely blame the degenerate regressive voters who intentionally put chaos agents in power. when uvalde in the aftermath of the robb elementary shooting where

    • elementary school kids died
    • the shooter was barely 18 with multiple assault weapons legally obtained
    • the local police stood outside for hours after the shooting started doing nothing

still overwhelmingly votes for abbott, blame the voters because the voters are the problem.

  • what they have successfully done is transfer the boat anchor that immigration and the order is from biden to themselves, and they are running on the border being broken and unsafe.

bold strategy. let's see how it plays out.

  • he took a vow to protect the constitution and he's going to fulfill that vow by ripping it to shreds just to put their doddering, syphilitic, insane, demented, narcissist god king in power.

I'd make the case you should use the 14th amendment on this guy right now. he just admitted that he will undermine the thing he is supposed to protect and defend.

  • the argument is the fucking moron's understanding of the president (that the president can do whatever whenever and no one can do anything about it). I had that same understanding of the president up until maybe the 2nd grade.

and that's the point of how batshit bonkers this theory was. 77 year old trump was forcing his lawyers (because I cannot in good conscience believe that lawyers who have not committed sanctionable offenses actually believe this) to advance a theory about the office of the presidency that your average 10 year old could easily dismiss (just noting I wasn't 10 in the 2nd grade but I was in the smart kid classes, so I'm giving average kids another 2 years).

the really over the top stupid side point of this argument is that the republican party is trying to impeach the current president for actions they say he made during(? after? do they even know?) the time he was vice president and none of them, the elected ones at least, are saying anything about trump which shows how ethereal at best that argument is.

  • if 4 of them decide to take the appeal, I suspect the other 5 would make it an expedited schedule to not delay the trial even more.

also keep in mind, this thursday scotus is hearing the colorado 14th amendment case and the deadline for this appeal is monday. I really don't think scotus is going to destroy the little credibility they have with the 14th amendment case and then completely end their relevance by taking this appeal since the only logical reason they would take the appeal would be to overturn the decision.

  • this is really going to put a damper on daytona bike week.

no, seriously. the tourist destination spots are going to take a serious hit.

but it's now apparant that the florida legislature is openly stating to all of the evilgelical christians that florida is open for business.

  • dean phillips isn't dropping out anytime soon. steve schmidt still has hundreds of thousands of dollars to grift off of him still.

btw the phillips campaign should tell you that all of that waxing moronic on and on steve schmidt did about saving democracy and protecting the country from trump was nothing but posturing for the msnbc liberals. if he actually cared about all of that, he would have told his client dean phillips to pack it up after NOBODY showed up for his coffee and conversation event in new hampshire.

  • the lesson that I'm afraid is being taught is that if we vote for our leaders and our leaders not only do nothing but act like they are or will do something just to get elected that voting is meaningless. I don't want to perpetuate the thought that nothing will change so don't bother voting because then nothing really will change.

  • I could have told them that. congress knows about school shootings and child poverty and healthcare and ineffective methods of teaching and they overwhelmingly choose not to do anything about it.

legislating mentions of homosexuality and transgenders out education doesn't protect kids. refusing to acknowledge history to "protect" one subset of kids feelings doesn't protect kids. and using kids as political chips because they don't have agency doesn't protect kids. it really and solely protects the old establishment which is becoming smaller and more irrelevant to society every day.

I don't have kids myself but I would tell them that anyone who claims to speak for you you need to listen to what they are saying and decide for yourself if they are speaking for you. because I am for damn sure the vast majority are only appealing to the parents, not the kids.

  • scotus is about to vaporize chevron doctrine bringing more power to themselves. it's just as likely they will let trump be on the ballot removing power from another branch of government and give more to themselves.

if scotus wants to maintain any of the little credibility they do have, they aren't going to ignore what is even for this era of language and the definition of words, plain language text saying that people who were involved in insurrecion against the united states are ineligible to hold office unless 2/3 OF each house of congress waives the provision. and one of the things that john roberts really cares about is how his court is seen by history. I can see 4 votes right now to allow the ruling to stand but I can't see of the rest of the unelected lords who provides vote 5.

  • it's disgusting that those in charge in israel are using what was done to their people in the 30s and 40s as a universal shield for when they commit atrocities. you can't tell any israeli they're doing bad or else you get accused of being antisemitic. you can't negotiate anything that way unless israel gets everything they want.

  • my guess is that in that situation all of the trump sycophants will be so fractured trying to attract the cult that they won't gain enough support to mount a meaningful challenge. they'll be too busy knifing each other in the back. I've never seen game of thrones, but I hear that's how a lot of it went.
