  • ….what??

I am a decently educated person, but those words in that order made no sense and also…didn’t actually say anything!!! There is no actual statement or meaning in any of that garbage.

  • Nah, it’s the US National Parks.

But honestly, none of those are worth your safety as an international traveler. Just wait until it’s safer. Though that might be a couple decades, at this point.

  • you should improve the material conditions of people so they can have enough time to empathize with others

I just want to applaud this absolute gem hidden sneakily in this comment. Well done. Like, get out of here with that excellent anti-capitalism, pro-social, pro-human logic.

I hereby declare this statement to be the new rule of law by which all of society should be run.

  • I’ve read that the homemade laundry soap is actually soap, not detergent, and that it will over time ruin your machine.

So, I’ve just continued buying laundry detergent and have just used a fraction of what the instructions advise. It’s worked for me. I don’t buy softener or sheets. Couldn’t afford it if I wanted to. But I do have oxyclean on hand only for when I’ve forgotten a load in the washer until it’s stinky or when I wash the dog bed covers or whatever.

  • I agree, but I think some MAGAs haven’t admitted this to themselves, so this research is useful to have on hand to walk them through reality. I think that some MAGA just haven’t thought critically about the outcomes of what they’re championing.

For those that have admitted their racism to themselves, this info could also still be helpful in forcing them admit it out loud, which then allows you to shame them as an evil person.

  • I can speak a little bit from an education perspective, like why a lot of universities are acquiescing to federal orders.

Right now, the philosophy at a lot of large universities is that it’s better to survive in some capacity to be able to educate young people (academic freedom is still allowed in classrooms, my university keeps insistently reminding faculty), than be shut down and shot and be unable to educate anyone at all. Also, they have thousands of employees relying on them for a paycheck to feed their families.

I’m still pissed at the loss of minority support systems. Students feel betrayed at the loss of gender neutral housing. There is righteous anger brewing. I’m part of the LGBT community, and seeing my community silenced as an organizational body and deleted from ongoing research boils my blood and makes me want to burn everything down.

But deep down, I get it. We have to keep educating youth about the true history of the USA, keep teaching them about how science works, keep exposing small town 18-year olds to other races and cultures to open their minds to empathy. If we don’t, we’ll have an entire generation that only has right-wing propaganda to teach them about the world.

Higher ed administration has a lot of weight on their shoulders. They of course side with minorities morally, ethically, and as human beings. It’s a really hard place to be in.

I’m wondering if this perspective is driving anyone in federal departments, as well.

  • Or, this is an attempt to reduce the number of cogs that can/will freeze if asked to do immoral things. Like, the higher the number of people who are running the military, the more people there are that can stop you from the inside if your orders are Nazi-ish.

  • We know at this point that the real motivation for these firings is not to save money. It’s to reduce friction as he becomes a dictator. The more gears the government has turning, the more spots there are that can jam up the system in protest. That’s my theory, anyway. I’m sure there are additional reasons.

  • Protest without the ultimate threat of force behind it is a parade.

I’ve never heard it worded this way, before, but it sums up something that has been bothering me about modern protests: they are parades.

  • An oversimplified "just do blank] to satisfy my illogical demands or else you're a Nazi sympathizer and deserve to have your property vandalized" isn't practical.

This right here. I agree that such people advocating these positions must be bad actors, but in case there are real people who think they alone hold the moral bar that everyone must clear: “Go fuck yourself.” Everyone has to start somewhere, and alienating those that are still learning is not helping.
