  • It's what YouTube really is though isnt it? Just very long videos of stuff that could have been said in 5 minutes or maybe didn't even need to be told/shared?

  • Looks like an image that could go on to the hood of a pickup truck that surely also is an American thing 😂🤯

  • I really hope that EU will remain strong and not fall for any of this BS!

  • If they needed it, they'd have bought it. The whole point with all this is, to have the rest of the world buy stuff from the US, that they don't neen or already buy from other places because it makes more sense. There is no logic - it is straight up blackmail

  • Sounds very American to just take over a whole concept and make their own 🤦

  • "We knew he was an idiot but not such a big idiot"

  • Seems like the tarrifs finally are helping increase exports... But its brain power that is being exported, for nothing in return. The art of the deal 💪👌

  • The EU have made laws regarding the right to be forgotten. If the companies breach this, they face huge fines, as a percentage of their overall earnings. That said, I am loosing faith in how often they get enforced and how easily you can complain to the authorities about it.

Also, i am in doubt of how much data they can actually maintain, while anonymizing it. So they may keep your data, but remove any personal link to you as a person.

  • So happy with my linux installation... damn.. just sounded like a Lemmy user there!

  • I have filed a GDPR complaint about Facebook with my local data authority, because Facebook deleted my account, but still send me newsletters suggesting people to follow. I filed it January 2024 and only after 10 months did the complain get forwarded to Ireland who, because of some new rule, now has to handle the complaint. It will take for ever, but i don't really care

  • Yeah, this is one of the companies that I trust to be doing shady stuff. Especially after the Pay or Ok move they did for 1½ year ago, forcing people to either pay a crazy subscription fee to avoid targeted ads, (for me it was close to €30 a month), or accept them. before that, you could opt out of targeted ads (but not tracking).

That said, even when paying a subscription, they would still track you, and still run suggested content, even from commercial accounts.

  • That is a great way to get new, hard working and law abiding citizens to the US /S

  • I feel your pain. I too am considering creating an account simply because it is needed for work and family stuff.

Here you can have a messenger account without having facebook but even that seem to be performing badly, because i dont have facebook. People have trouble finding me and I can't always join group chats.

I have considered using an old phone just for Facebook and getting an extra phone number to verify the account with. Then only use Facebook through that device and leave it at home. Maybe I'll have to give Facebook my info but can as well prohibit then from tracking me

  • I understand this. What i am trying to explain is, that I wish they marketed it to people like me too 🤷‍♂️

  • We are all different. I personally prefer the meat burgers to the vegan alternatives. If they had made a burger with "RootBites", or whatever, that maybe even were the same as the ones they use for a veggie burger, i wouldn't even compare them to a meat burger, and would not see them as an alternative to mean. Just a great option, like any other ingredient, but not compared to meat.

I understand what you're saying though. I just feel that it is sad to compare veggie products to meat products. They are great for what they are, not for imitating meat

  • This is my point though. Many of these plant based alternatives are pretty bad, if you already like the meat version that they are trying to imitate.

So if you like steak, the vegan steak will not live up to what you had imagined. If instead it was called Green bite, root rise, VerdeVibe, beanbliss or something else that had nothing to do with a meat dish, people would have nothing to compare it to and value it for what it is

  • I wish vegan products did not try to recreate a meat product but instead just made naramd new products.

Making vegan chicken wings, forces you to compare them to real chicken wings.

If they instead were branded as something entirely unrelated to meat, they would have a decent chance at often being great products as they are!

  • Imagine Americans having to cross the border to find jobs.... 🤯
