  • They have a really good racket going on and want to make sure people keep giving them way more money than is necessary. It's simply not true that Infosec.Exchange requires $5000/month to operate unless they're doing something very wrong or just straight up lying.

Yes, internet rando. I totally believe your solid calculations based on .. vibe?

  • Exit interviews are a signature quest. They need you to sign some NDA so you can't bitch about the reeeeally sketchy stuff your boss did.

If they pulled a guy out of a meeting - his meeting - to fire him, those cruel fucks deserve nothing from me but a glance in my rearview.

My last resignation was via a note added to my file on the way out. I left another job with Friday plane tickets and a go-bag and was starting work on Monday in a new time-zone.

  • It's the first time I hear systemd [...] were spelling the death of [...] linux

Where've you been? We've been expressing concern about its badly-built badly-architected metastatic creep for a decade of dwindling choice and competition as it slowly forced out dissent and clued concern.

Now it's eaten autofs, DNS, cron, NTPd, and replaced them with shitty clones, and has carefully eroded our ability to recover from this mess.

  • Are we competing again?

I'm proud to be setting up a rhel10 desktop, as it'll be the first time I ran Linux as a desktop in 30 years of a Linux/Unix career.

    To rephrase: I ran XFree86 on a 4mb i386 machine 30 years ago.

    What do I win?

  • I like Will Smith.

My former peer talks about Will Smith a lot. I was working in a city where they film a lot of stuff, and Will would travel before filming started. He'd come in, book a bit of the mayor's time, and thank him for letting them film. He'd waste his day touring the city and seeing local groups as a drop-in guest, and then bail. The guy really worked on his image and PR and seemed to come off as generally a good guy ... before.

  • System service managers like systemd, OpenRC, runit, or SysVinit often come down to user preference.

And coding best-practice. And a philosophy borne of bad luck and bad software that aims to resist monoculture.

But that lennart kid is cool for a Microsoft employee.

  • If you want to sell 3D printed stuff, sell it on an appropriate platform and for fuck's sake, sell things that you actually have the rights to print and sell.

I'm so relieved that there's an appropriate platform!

I need some brackets to mount a gadget I ebayed as a spare. The vendor included tapped holes for mounting, but never sold the brackets. About 3 designs out there offer a solid and reliable mounting solution.

Each one a bit that would fit in a 1990 drugstore film cylinder, only 40c to print and us$71 shipping to the V3L, it seems.

There is no library in my area still maintaining a running 3d printer. I have no contacts nerdier than me who have a working printer.

Where is this place that I can get my brackets? I can't justify a $250 printer just for 4 bracket pieces!
