I always hear arguments about this from the type of guy who thinks he's better than every woman at every sport. I'm a little guy. I was never going to play basketball. Plenty of women are bigger, stronger, faster, whatever than I am. Normal women, not athletes. I have no idea how run of the mill regular old dudes have never had to confront this literal fact, but it would be better for everyone if they had.

I totally get it. I'm a parent and it screwed me up pretty bad and I still randomly think about it without any prompting. It's shameful that it happened and it's shameful that nothing will be done about it.

How are you getting that from what I wrote? I'm saying it's a basic human instinct that when you hear a child in distress you find yourself moving toward that child, whether it's yours or not. There were a lot of police there, and none of them acted on that instinct. I'm agreeing with you. It's insane that none of those people, many if not most of whom were parents, acted on that natural instinct to protect children.

I find it particularly grim that their training must be excellent at subverting basic human emotions but apparently doesn't do anything to help them actually protect and serve. It's clearly effective, it's just horrifying what they're training them to be.

Ever been at a playground with your kid, and you hear a scream? Turns out it was someone else's kid and they're already on it but you're already on your feet and so are half the parents there. It's hard wired. Their training might not be good for keeping people safe, but it sure as hell must be good at subverting basic human instincts.

Different places right? Where I live you're as like to get shot as not for approaching someone's house on foot at night without announcing who you are and why you're there.

Someone came stealthily up to our gate late at night once when my partner was alone in the side yard. Dog ran him off when he tried to open the gate, but I don't like to think what might have happened if he wasn't out with her. There is literally zero chance he was there for any legitimate reason and she was clearly visible in a light at the back of the property.

Yeah, voipms is great and there's a sms app for Android available on fdroid. It really is so cheap you won't need to pause it, and works fine with linphone or whatever sip app you want to use.

I probably should have gotten a sad drive, but I found a good deal on an external fiber channel one and I didn't realize how difficult fiber channel cards could be.

Do you have any distro or hardware advice? I have an external drive, and I've bought several fiber channel cards for it and none of them seem to work either with my motherboard or distribution.

If you're worried about ai fingerprinting your writing style, maybe have an ai rewrite your posts?

If you're that worried about it you probably shouldn't be posting at all. I noticed reading through reddit and Lemmy that other autistic people write similarly. When I looked into it there's been research done on it, and apparently it's a pretty good predictor or autism. It's not just a matter of identifying you, ai will likely be able to apply various diagnoses.

I'm always amazed at tourists looking at gators at the zoo. Whatever zoo you're at there's probably a river or lake full of them within a couple miles.

I saw some tourists a while back who thought they were looking at a whole group of albino gators, but they were just covered in bird crap. I had to tell them.

Not going to pretend that Frozen 2 is my favorite movie, but having seen it dozens of times with my kids...

The dam wasn't the problem. It was a symbol of the problem, which was the rift between the 2 peoples living in such close proximity. Nature is indifferent, people are not. Nature doesn't care if there's a dam, it just becomes a different habitat. People should have cared about impacting each other's way of life.

Nature removed the dam, and the barrier to the people coming together, when the responsible parties decided to right their wrongs and consider each other, regardless of the high cost. Even if that's not the case, the story remains that nature's power has to be harnessed to a purpose by people. But I think they were going for the former.

Anyway, not a great movie, but also not a plot hole.

Looks like someone tried to use panorama mode with a camera from the mid 00s.

I know better, but I feel like if I grabbed that fork to use it, my arm might stretch out like that too, and i'd basically become a collection of wet floppy noodles instead of arms and legs.

I'll have to check that one out.
