Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

If you had a time machine that could set the internet back to what it was like in a certain era, when would that be?

Memes @sopuli.xyz

It really fucks with my recommendations, but fuck em™

  • Too bad I won't be able to get it unless T-Mobile carries it, and they never carry the cool phones (Anymore) :(

  • I don't mind the normal cross post, but this half automated reposting

FYI, it's not automated, the most automation I use is notifications. Everything else is done completely manually. And crossposting is easy, a notification comes in and I can take care of it in most cases right away wherever I'm at because, ya know, smartphones LOL it just takes me a few minutes lmao

Also, you're slinging insults at or about mods, comms, admins and whole instances that have nothing to do with it so maybe that's where they're coming from on that lol

  • Just the search in history? Bruh, the entire YT history feature has been the single most unreliable piece of regurgitated Satan hell hound dog shit I've ever had the pleasure of using

  • Thanks, I missed the above reply, this was a crosspost, so I've broken that crosspost to change the link to something not plagiarized

  • It can apply to both, it would be better described as a soft brick because it was temporary, but a complex fix

A hard brick is the permanent kind

  • Only when they're being queried, when idle it consumes memory to keep them running to be ready to answer a query, but thats about it

  • Those aren't modules in of themselves, more like plugin frameworks for hooking into the Android kernel/deep system functions that others can write plugins for.

LSposed can do more "cool stuff" but it's also a much bigger pain to keep it hidden from root detectors. I occasionally use an app called Card Emulator Pro that allows me to duplicate and then emulate any NFC card I tap to it that needs an LSposed module to work

Magisk Modules, can do less but is much easier to keep root hidden, most of my MM are for hiding root (like playcurl) but I particularly like isodrive for being able to use my phone to store and use bootable ISO images

  • As someone who used to change ROMs and kernels almost weekly back in the day (when I had more time lmao), honestly, not really.

Stock android already provides so much these days that used to take a custom ROM to obtain. And what isn't, can be provided via a LSposed module or Magisk Module, which is MUCH easier to handle than a full tilt custom ROM

There's, one, exception though. If you want a custom ROM for a specific purpose then there might still be some utility there. Like GrapheneOS for privacy focus

  • In the end, everything becomes crab Linux

  • We're all part of the Fediverse which includes Masto, Pixel, PieFed, Lemmy etc all communicating on the same interoperable ActivityPub protocol

Under that is the "Lemmy-verse/Thrediverse" that is what would be "link aggregator" type social media (eg reddit) and includes PieFed, Lemmy, MBin etc.

While very cool in that it basically ruins the whole notion of centralized Social media, it has its quirks. Like what this meme is about, there's no perfect way to translate a Lemmy reply to a mastodon user or a masto reply to a Lemmy post for a Lemmy user

  • Linus has entered the chat

  • I mean, it kinda is to me, the base meme image isn't of them being in space or doing any of the "tourism" parts, but of them being "so grateful to be on the ground" because they couldn't "handle it"

  • Left over fries are good, sometimes I even leave them out on purpose to reheat them!

I WILL die on this hill

  • The sentiment is valid, but being as closed as an iPhone is quite an exaggeration. You can't even use a different keyboard on an iPhone let alone a different launcher or lock screen lol

  • I just hope whoever owns the .ee domain keeps it renewed or passes it to someone else. .film didn't and because it had traffic on it those domain name vultures have it now and want a ridiculous amount of money for it

Didn't the .world admins reverse course on the piracy thing? I could have sworn I read a thread where they talked about not blocking it anymore
