I would make the point (not necessarily for an hour's drive) that the roads are often more tiring to drive on in the UK -- that is, they're not as flat, wide or straight as freeways often are, so require more concentration. Driving for an hour along Welsh country lanes doesn't feel the same as hitting the freeway for an hour. Just my two cents/tuppence

I would disagree that the word 'boy' implies young. Its usage to refer to men in their ~20s goes back to at least the 70s (I doubt anyone thinks The Boys Are Back in Town is about children, for instance). 'Girl' and 'baby' have similarly different meanings depending on context.

I would add the minor point that I've also seen heatran running air balloon instead of life orb :)

Not a US citizen, and very much in favour of gun control, but I don't think this argument holds much water.

Consider yourself a wannabe tyrannical dictator, but your population is heavily armed and might rebel against your takeover. How do you go about preparing your takeover? The answer: you slowly restrict gun usage. You make purchasing a gun more difficult, restrict the spaces you are permitted to carry a weapon, introduce buyback schemes to reduce the number of guns on the streets, etc., to ensure you have a monopoly on violence.

If you look at it from this standpoint, then the response is obvious; as a gun activist, you must vehemently oppose all restrictions on gun purchasing, because any restriction paves the way for yet more restrictions.

And it was fought for by people who had hope for what could be achieved, and crucially used that to unite working people.

I'm not arguing for complacency; I'm arguing that labour movements work best when they are pushing for clearly defined goals (like an 8 hour work week), and the labour movement should honour those that gave their lives for the cause in those doomed strikes at Homestead, Blair Mountain, or Pullman.

Celebrating and taking pride in what has been achieved is part of what motivates people to defend it. Doomposting online does nothing to motivate people and merely depresses them.

Every inch of progress has been won through a combination of a rhetoric of hope for what could be achieved, and a recognition of the shortcomings of the current system. Having the former without the latter leads to complacency, but having the latter without the former leads to apathy and despair.

What is the tri-force if not a metaphor for their thruple?
