  • I'm sorry. :(

If you're still young, may I suggest opening up a 401K account, especially if your employer offers to match your contributions. I know everybody's situation is different, but I can tell you that 401Ks, an IRA, and being frugal are what has made building a home a possibility for me and my husband.

By being frugal, I don't mean starving yourself and never enjoying anything, but cut out non-essential spending. You don't need to upgrade your phone, your computer, or your car every time. Pay that shit off. You also don't need to subscribe to every single streaming service. Pick one and watch the shit out of their content, then cancel and switch to another. Usually you even get a free trial to start.

Again, I'm not saying this will work for everyone, and I know life is never that simple, but these things really helped me and my husband save up over the decades.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I like creating things so it just seems like a fun activity to me, even if there may already be premade blueprints out there.

  • Peak efficiency right there.

  • I feel like if Dr. Girlfriend had a cat, she would name it Dr. Cat.

  • I always thought baby powder is how you make baby for breakfast. Just add water or milk, cover, and microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.

  • That's exactly how Donna feels.

  • Ooh, sounds intriguing. I'll try to remember to do this next time.

  • Where I used to live a favorite was fries with mayonnaise and cheese powder.

  • I prefer to buy things online. I'm assuming your wife is the same but sometimes shops in person to try stuff out. Something that really helped me was taking my body measurements and checking the size charts online.

  • I just read an interview of James Cameron where he says they actually cut off her hair which was down to her waist at the time. He told her:

"Your hair will grow back. Vasquez will live forever."

And she really does. What a character.

  • There's a donut place I go to that hands you a device/keypad thing when you pay and it has like a gazillion prompts and questions, including tip. But I found that if you order ahead and pay online, you can skip all that and just pop in and pick up your order. So that's what I always do now.

For anyone in the Chicago area, you need to try Stan's Donuts. Everything is good but specifically the yeast-raised donuts are to die for. Best Boston Cream donut I've ever had.

  • Maybe look into Soylent drinks. It's nutritionally complete, as in you could just drink that and not supplement with Gatorade or V8, and it comes in different flavors. You can order from the website or buy at Target and other retailers.

Yes, I know it's a movie about people being recycled for food. The guy who invented it was a software engineer who wanted something easy, simple, and nutritious that he could take for lunch while working, and he thought it would be funny to name it Soylent.

I've been taking the powder and drinks for several years now. Favorite drink flavor is strawberry.

  • I feel like that could happen in the same way that "you and I" became a common overcorrection.
