  • Yeah I wish the dev accepted donations. Ublock makes my life so much better and I have a hard time being online without it. That's something I'd gladly donate to. You can donate to the maintainers of the block-lists though

  • Venmo is an app used to send cash with a little note to describe what it's for. It's owned by PayPal. When someone asks for someone else's Venmo, it normally means they want to send cash. The person with $1 remaining must have given their Venmo info out hoping to get some help, but instead the person who asked for it requested their last dollar.

That's an explanation of what is happening here. I can't tell you why it's funny as requested, but that's because it's really not that funny

  • I was definitely scared if Arch before trying it. Seemed like the general consensus was that it wasn't a matter of if Arch would break, but when. I heard that updating everything will eventually break the system. Well, I figured, I'd like to try it just to see. I haven't had a single problem and it's the setup I'm most proud of l, having spent the most amount of time building it up to exactly how I like it.

  • Just don't use flatpak or snap. I'll bet anything that switching off flatpak/snap will solve all your issues. Just check the downloads page on the OpenRA site and find whatever works on your system.

  • I'll have to take a look at these packages and see if I can make it work for me. How do you handle exporting to PDF or other workable formats (e.g. Word) for use by other faculty or students? Further, how does your formatting within emacs hold up for publishers? Thanks for the response here, it is the most helpful.

  • Probably fucked it up trying to use all the keyboard combinations.

Joking! I like emacs better than vim for coding, but does anyone have any good text editors for essay writing? I work in academia and need something like a word processor, not a text editor (I work in philosophy and latex isn't great for this. Maybe in a maths setting, but not for philosophy and not for me). So far onlyoffice is the best I've found, but I'd like something that fits in with my hyprland setup nicely, and only office doesn't.

  • I'd say mostly practical reasons. It's hard to get everyone in your contacts list to switch to Signal or other options. WhatsApp is so widely used that it's hard to eliminate it completely without losing touch with friends or family. We're trying, and hopefully with time enough people will switch that WhatsApp can fall to the wayside
