  • Does anyone know if / how well the federation between Iceshrimp and Lemmy works?

-❔ How are posts from Lemmy (with headline + URL) displayed on Iceshrimp?

-❔ Can you find Lemmy posts in Iceshrimp by searching for the URL?

-❔ Can you follow Lemmy communities from Iceshrimp?

-❔ Can you post to Lemmy communities from Iceshrimp?

The first three points work with Sharkey (one of the Misskey/Firefish forks), but unfortunately posting does not.

  • Yes, sorry, I had overlooked that. That's why I recommended Lufi afterwards.

  • Oh, over the Internet, not just the local network ... then maybe Lufi?

    for example this instance: https://upload.disroot.org/

Works well, but not particularly fast with large amounts of data (up to 2GB possible)

  • Q4os with Trinity desktop really needs little RAM and runs fast even on old devices. The desktop is a bit old-fashioned, but ok. You may also try lighter browsers, perhaps Palemoon.

But 4GB is actually not that little, almost all distros can run well with it, especially rather slim ones like Debian lxqt. maybe it's really due to the hdd.

  • I don't know, I have very good experiences with the Antennas. It (almost always) delivers the expected content. Do you perhaps have a keyword that is also (part of) an instance name?

Then it would have to be added as an excluded word.

  • The topic of the instance only really plays a role in Mastodon. With Sharkey and most other Fediverse software, there are much better features for structuring the content you are interested in. In Friendica, for example, via the channels and in Sharkey, Misskey and its other forks with the Antennas / News Picker

  • I don't know what options there are for admins. lemmy.ml could (temporarily) defederate the instances from which the spam comes. From all Mastodon instances that have a completely free registration, at the moment spam is distributed through the whole fediverse. Lemmy users can block individual accounts, but I don't think this is possible with a whole instance.

  • The first paragraph of a post sent from Mastodon (or Akkoma, Misskey etc.) to a Lemmy community will appear in Lemmy as a headline. The character limit is 200 characters, only if it is longer will it be cut off. The post itself is displayed in full. However, only one image is federated, for example.

  • "But if any M post mentions that L community, the post will get boosted by the community’s M account, so everybody who follows will get a notification."

That's not quite right: The Lemmy community boosts the post to the timeline, but not everyone who follows it from Mastodon (or Friendica, Akkoma etc.) receives a notification. The post then only appears in the timeline. You can set whether you want to receive a notification about new posts/boosts from an account

🖤 🎸 Pearl Jam - Dark Matter (New Single 2024) : "Dark Matter‘s lead single and title track does indeed feel like a return to Pearl Jam’s classic ’90s grungy hard rock vibes."

  • That’s a good starter list. However it should be noted that all the Simple apps should be avoided now and instead people should use the forked versions from Fossify.

Yes, that's right, all the recommendation lists are no longer up to date in this respect. However, until all Fossify apps have been released, the Simple apps from F-Droid can still be used. They have no ads, they are just no longer updated for two months/the time of sale..

  • If you have the apps from F-Droid, there is no need to rush, I think. The F-Droid-apps are without adds and offline. They no longer receive updates, but they are not apps that need constant updates.
