Mbin is very community oriented in it's development, collective decision-making and all that. Lemmy is more subject to the ideas of it's creators, for better or for worse.
I prefer being on instances with fewer users anyway - it feels a bit more personal. So more users on the larger Lemmy instances is not really an argument in my book.
I like the user experience on Lemmy and Mbin more. Another thing I like about Mbin is being able to boost posts and interact with the greater Fediverse more.
I like the performance of PieFed. It also works without JavaScript, which is nice some times.
What I like about this place is that we can all be on different platforms if we want to - there's no such thing as there not being enough people around to support all the platforms, as they're not competing for users. I'm happy whatever platform the people I interact with use - the important thing is that I can interact with them. :)
Sometimes it seems to know that the paths are not the best, and I really force it to take the path I choose instead of more convenient ones. So it only suggests the rugged paths when I insist it goes "there, but via there there and there". Generally I can make it through, and how overgrown a path is can change by the season, so it's a bit tricky. At one point in Italy though I ended up at a Via Ferrata, at which point I obviously had to turn back.
I have Street Complete installed, so I've started leaving notes using that whenever I notice any issues. And to make contributions now and then, of course. :)
Organic Maps is fantastic. I particularly use it for hiking, and it's fantastic. It finds some amazing trails that I would otherwise never have gone to. Sometimes they can be challenging or overgrown, so you have to know what you're doing and be prepared to turn back if necessary, but I owe a lot of truly incredible experiences to this app.
It originates as a fork of Maps.me, from when Maps.me changed to closed source. Since then Organic Maps has grown to become a lot better than the project it originates from, at least according to my preferences.
It should, however, be a nice encouragement to the people out there in red or purple states: You can do this. It's worth going out and getting your voice heard. The weird loser can be defeated for good, and if it's overwhelming enough his entire fucking party can go the way of the Whigs.
You'd be able to subscribe to YouTube videos from federated services, and when opening them you'd see the comments from YouTube. Similar to how PieFed is currently integrated.
I doubt we would suddenly have every thread flooded by the YouTube comment section, thank god.
Also I doubt it would ever happen - Google have no interest in driving traffic away from the site.
I haven't tried it, but kind of like what they're doing with the Fediverse and all that. I love flipboard.video.
But now I had to manually unclick a billion tiny individual cookie toggles just to view flipboard.com without sharing my data with third parties, so I get a feeling this app is not for me. At least I can follow content from Mastodon if I want. :)
Edit - oops, didn't realize the original comment was deleted. Oh well. :)
I guess this is grazelands, and the tree grows the one place animals don't manage to graze. Pretty neat.
It's also a big problem many places - grazing can be a huge problem for biodiversity, as it does not threaten old forest, but it keeps new forest from ever getting a chance to grow. So once the old trees die off there will be nothing left unless farming ends.
I genuinely think this lady just figured she could make quick money by cosplaying a crazy Trump supporter for a while. Clearly that doesn't excuse anything she has said or done - I don't trust any high ranking Trump supporters to be genuine, but they still ruin America, and they increase tensions and spread hatred.
Nevertheless, as an immigrant trying to make it in a country that's somewhat famous for faking it until you're making it... She sure gave it a shot. And for a Latin American to come over and try to ruin the US from the inside... I mean, game recognizes game?
Deleting her social media makes sense if this is the case, as her race is over and she can kill off her character.
It's remarkable how stable Mastodon is over time - only matched by Bluesky and Threads, which are stable for a completely different reason.
One thing I have wondered about is whether, when sharing a link on Mastodon, all the traffic generated by different instances crawling metadata from the source inflates traffic artificially. That's something I was considering looking at my own data in cpanel, as I received more traffic to my website than I expected, but I'm not sure if it's a potential explanation?
