This sub is obsessed with Thinkpads, but when you're looking for a secondhand bargain then you pick up what comes opportunistically. The market is flooded with Dells because businesses change machines long before they go out of date and generally keep them in very very good condition.
I do this with movies in IMDB. Bookmark movies I'm meaning to watch. Rate the movies I have watched. You need to find a website or ap that let's you track games in this way. I can see there's IGDB.com, but have never tried it. This game tracking will happen on your phone and be seperate from your collection, so it doesn't matter which market or platform you use.
Game suggestions are more difficult. Sites tend to suggest sponsored content and AAA expensive suggestions. The better way to find new content is from user forums or trusted reviewers/publications.
Stop following news. I've blocked news and politics related stuff on Lemmy too.
Also speak to your girlfriend. I'm not on any mainstream social media. My wife loves watching war atrocities on her social media feed and gossip drama. It has taken years for her to accept I don't want to see that shit.
Huge vote for mailbox.org. They have calendars, contract lists, online storage, etc. I've been able to get rid of Google/gmail almost entirely from my phone.
Best I found was a Discord server called "dads gaming". Rather than whiny youngsters, you get middle aged med who have little time for gaming, so they play casually and are happy to play with others who are also mediocre. I haven't used this for ages though.
I don't understand how social media is seen as the only source of enriching content. I have loads of stuff to talk to people about without social media.
The only social media I'm on is Lemmy.
follow news via RSS. Use an app that let's you blacklist content you don't want to see.
follow interests via RSS (gaming news, tech news, movie news, biking news... Whatever you like)
listen to podcasts
watch movies and TV shows
read books
follow sports
pick a hobby or skill of interest
talk to people about their interests
There are tons of ways to keep up with things. Social media isnt the only option..... Unless you particularly want follow social media trash specifically. If that's the case, then you're welcome to join any social media you want. You won't die. Use fake details, burner emails, burner phone sims if you want. The world won't end if one person goes back to contributing to data mining and consuming algorithm trash. You've got to live in your social circle and that's more important than what a bunch of people on Lemmy think.
They want you to work in advance and for you to ask them later with thorough explanation for justifying a raise. They'll decide later (end of the year) performance review or salary review.
I applied for an extra role at work last year. They were reluctant to give it to me "because I hadn't already been doing it" (for free)...shows that I'm not keen. Why the hell would I have done this before when I had any time or resource for it? They didn't have any other applicants so they gave it to me anyway.....but WTF
I can't see how people would find out unless your son tells them.
If you're wondering if ANYONE out there would find this weird, then the answer is yes. There are lots of people who have strange ideas and odd thoughts about what is inappropriate. So if you told lots of people, I'm sure someone would find it weird.
But that doesnt actually make it weird or wrong. You were right to do what you did. Anyone who tried to judge you for it would be wrong.
Don't Talk To Me Or My Sun Ever Again
