Yeah, old games often get overlooked but they kind of laid the foundations for much of what we had today. I remember spending a lot of time on elite, back in the 80s. It seemed so impressive back then, and really it was an achievement considering the hardware was BBC micro computers.

Yeah great innit? I always used to be a reader and I've been rediscovering old favourites and reading a bit of new stuff. I have limited screen time after work and life etc but I've also been doing the same with films. And there's a load of games on my list too. I'm not saying reddit was a waste of time, but I'd spend an hour or two a day on there, was constantly in ongoing conversations with a bunch of people. Lemmy is much less so. Social media is good n stuff, I'm gonna stick with Lemmy for a bit - but yeah, books etc :)

Yeah same here. I used to comment on reddit multiple times a day, I comment on Lemmy maybe once or twice a week. There's just not as much here that inspires me. It's okay, though, and I'm reading more books.

So completely overlooking the overlying political situation and just thinking about this incident - it's fuckin horrible.

I've been at a whole lot of techno parties back in the day and just imagining these events triggers a real wince in my soul. Remember being off your head at a really good party with your mates and your partner and then imagine this shit happening. I mean, a fuckin rave is pretty much the opposite of a military target.

I'm thinking there's a lot of criticisms to make on both sides of this conflict and a lot of comments here are focusing on that and overlooking the fucking horror of this incident right here.

I've cut down (dead) trees. This is a job that could be done by one experienced person but I wouldn't tackle it on my own - it's an isolated area and if something goes wrong you are fucked. Trees are fuckin heavy and if one falls on you, you'll know about it. I don't know where the 16 year old would have got the experience to tackle this, the cuts look reasonably competent. It would also have taken a fairly long blade chainsaw, though it's hard to judge the thickness of the stump. Also, what a wanker.

I agree that there are some crimes so horrible that the offenders no longer deserve to live. The trouble is that I don't trust police and the courts to correctly identify the guilty all of the time. Until there's a system that can prove guilt with 100% accuracy we shouldn't have a death penalty.

A while back round where I live a guy was burned to death by a mob of his neighbours because people were saying he was a pedophile. Turned out he had only been taking photos of kids vandalising his garden. Oops.

I don't really think it's bizarre. Sex crimes and consensual sex are two very different things. The issue here is that some people seem to be facing consequences that last a lifetime for 'crimes' that seem pretty insignificant. But if someone raped another person you'd expect them to face consequences even if they are underage when committing the offence.
