  • Bank errors in your favour do happen, or at least they did - one happened to me maybe twenty five years ago. I was broke and went to the bank to pay in my last £30-something of cash to cover an outgoing bill. Stopped at the cash machine outside my bank to check my balance was sufficient now, and found that the cashier had put an extra 4 zeros on the figure I'd deposited. I was rich! I was also in my early 20s and not thinking too clearly I guess because my immediate response was to rush home to get my passport with the intention of going abroad and opening an account into which to transfer the funds, never coming back. I checked my balance again at another machine closer to home and the bank had already caught and corrected their mistake. Took them maybe thirty minutes.

After a bit of occurred to me that I was lucky really, because I didn't know what the fuck I was doing and the funds would have been traced very easily and I'd have been in deep shit.

But yeah, anecdotal, but shit like that did happen. I assume it's more rare these days as fewer humans are involved in the system, and fewer people use cash.

  • Personally, I think it's fairly likely that Jesus was a real person, or possibly the amalgamation of the myths of several people who were well known at the time. I just don't think he was the son of God etc, all the angels and shit. It seems likely he was a grass roots activist amongst an oppressed population experiencing military occupation. Probably got put to death for it too, and then somehow his posthumous reputation got mixed up with religion and hits exaggerated biography was tacked onto the Jewish bible and became the new testament.

No need to believe in all the miracles and shit, it just seems more likely that he was an activist who got famous than that someone sat down and wrote a piece of fiction and managed to found a religion based on it. Although TBF I guess Hubbard did that so who really knows?

  • Do they want to burn her at the stake for witch craft like it's fucking 1724

That is a bit further down the path they've started down with criminalising abortion. They've got to decriminalise violence against women before they can actually start burning them. They're getting there, though.

  • As a British person who spent several years living and working in EU countries before brexit and is now unable to - I don't think I'll ever stop being furious at the ignorant bigoted fucks who voted away the wonderful freedom of movement we shared with our neighbours. Useless slack-jawed gibbering wankers.

  • Yeah, this is why capitalism should be treated like a dangerous dog and kept on a short leash. It can kind of work out for a while when a government restrains it, ensures that legislation exists and is enforced to protect workers, the environment, and consumers. Strong unions are a good sign. This never seems to last though, because the governments get bought eventually.

  • Europe isn't depending on the US for their defense. The countries in Europe have their own militaries and two - three if you count Russia - are nuclear armed. They just don't have as high a percentage military spending as the US does. Many of them prioritise stuff like healthcare for their populations.
