Destin has too much of a Huntsville bias. Listening to old heads wax poetic about Apollo and how things "should be" or whatever then complaining about Starship is totally missing the point of Artemis and the roots of its issues. SLS and Orion couldn't be much worse if they tried, and NASA was way too late on contracting HLS and suits. And a rover. And a hab. It isn't SpaceX's fault that their pie in the sky idea that was RFQ'ed way too late is too big and complicated for what Artemis 3 needs.
At the very least, to I'm glad when billionaires spend their money on this kind of thing instead of yachts or an island or whatever. But yeah, I'm not a.big fan of Maezawa's "brand".
I don't really understand the decision to cancel it. Whether it's in 1 year or 10, I'll drop whatever else I'm doing for a trip around the moon. Maybe Steve Aoki disagrees. This has to be devastating (and maybe a little bit of a relief?) for Tim Dodd.
As a side note, it's actually easier to build a pressure vessel to deal with space than the deep sea. 1 atm is about 15psi, vs 6000 psi at the Titanic.
I guess that delay from the Kuiper test sats in Oct '23 to the first operational launch soon™ isn't really different from SpaceX going from the Tintin test sats in Feb '18 to operational sats in May '19. I'm just impatient.
Amazon also has to actually build satellites at some point. They could have already been launching on the Atlas Vs they bought. And having Kuiper sats ready would mean ULA doesn't have to launch the 2nd Vulcan with a mass sim.
The visor looks so cool! That's impressively barely bulkier than the IVA suit. Compared to the EMU and the concepts from Axiom and Collins, this is incredible.
This is cool for the small sat industry. It's a good sign that there's enough demand for another frequent rideshare orbit. Now we need more launch providers to catch up.
I'm moving and starting over with a lot of my computer / AV setup. I had Plex awhile ago but haven't run a media server in at least a few years. Should I go with Jellyfin or Emby? Or something else? I guess the main limitation is streaming to a smart TV.
Getting through the first launch and getting to an operational cadence are totally different stories, though. Europe really needs some of their launch startups to succeed and shake things up, because the status quo is failing.
