  • I think a lot of their culture revolves around adolescence. Sports, music, movies, fashion etc. are based on juvenile traits, where talking, actions and getting attention are more important than more mature things like listening and compromising.

They're not all like that, but there certainly are many who get through life in an American cultural bubble. When you reach your early twenties you probably think you've got everything figured out. That will last until you encounter other cultures that can challenge your views. A lot of Americans don't encounter other cultures.

I know plenty of Europeans who are similar, but they don't appear as one group. A German ignorant appears and speaks different than a Swedish ignorant, and both countries are known for having a similar superiority complex based on their own domestic successes. The Americans are in a disadvantage here, since everyone can hear and understand them, and there's quite a lot of them, so their presence is just a lot more obvious.

  • Hmm. Perhaps the beaches shouldn't be the prioritized focus for developing alternatives to plastic.

If it's on the beach, it can be picked up. Today, tomorrow or eventually.

I think the plastic that can't be as easily be collected ought to be replaced by alternatives first.

  • The World War 3 comment is all on Trump. He is the one who said it and he is the one using it as a threat in a "negotiation".

He (probably) won't start it himself, but he just gave Putin the green light to do so.

NATO without USA can still kick Russias ass if they decide to attack other European countries, but if China gets involved, then USA will have to come out from the corner that Trump just painted USA into.

  • Going with the balloon idea, the universe is the surface of the balloon. A sphere doesn't have a center on the surface.

We could say that the center of the sphere is where the big bang started. The distance to the center of the expansion is 13.7 billion years. It doesn't have a distance in x,y,z coordinates, because those are all on the surface, and it's kind of futile to attempt to understand time as a fourth dimension in this regard. We don't know if the universe is spherical at all. It's just a description used to portray the expansion. The expansion is also happening faster than light, which makes it impossible to convert the age of the universe to a size. The universe is bigger 13.7 billion light years, perhaps even infinite. Infinity doesn't have a center either.

  • The biggest" fuck America" and fundamental flaw is that these judges are appointed for life. This puts the entire system in a situation where things can only be changed by being extremely patient or extremely violent...

Americans aren't known for their patience.

  • The funniest thing was Trumps reaction.

He couldn't keep the ridiculous stone face, and when attempting to make a smirk and eye-roll to show disregard or whatever that juvenile expression is supposed to show, he couldn't even do that with any confidence.

  • They're looking for yes-men, who will be loyal to them in even the worst possible situations. Heiling is just a test to weed out anyone else.

Also, the heiling gesture came a little too natural to them.

  • Why does it have to be static in the first place? Why not just let them contribute what they can, when they can, since the money’s not tight?

Who is to decide when and what they can pay then?

It's also as much about determining the disposable income. If she has a different opinion on what is reasonable to spend on other things that could easily become a can of worms.

"This is what you need to contribute to the household, whatever you do with the rest of your money is not my issue" is much better than: "Hey, I know you're low on cash but maybe if you cut back on lattes, avocado toast, gambling, booze and cigarettes, we would be able to pay the bills."

In reality, the fixed amount isn't very fixed anyway. If one part can't pay, it's still unlikely that the partner would kick them out. But as long as money isn't that tight, it's simply better to allocate a fixed amount to the household, so the money isn't disposable for random spending, so they don't risk overspending or increasing expensive habits.

This isn't just to curb the costs, but also to avoid the situation in which one part becomes financially dependent on the other, which is also a recipe for disaster for both parts.
