  • It's so frustrating that Camila doesn't deserve any of this, but the person saying they wouldn't change their decision and does deserve to see consequences will refuse to actually feel them.

Like, I want her out, but how dare this asshole say he regrets nothing while asking others to bail him out for the thing he voted for and still wants more of? Why is a social safety net OK in this case to this guy, but not for anyone else?

The detentions are a for-profit endeavor, the people are being treated inhumanely, and this is all some Nazi-level shit. I want all the allies that can be won away from the neofascists. I fucking hate this particular dude's refusal to recognize the taste of boot leather though, even as it impacts his supposed loved ones. It's maddening.

    Free Camila.

  • Fuck that, no one elected DOGE. Transparency was the promise, no?

  • It wasn't called Louisiana before the French named it that, I was just having fun with the way you phrased to things

  • Louisiana

Now France has entered the chat too! But yes, your point that history gets messy depending on the lense being used remains (at least, I hope I am not misrepresenting you)

  • Adding to this (and also, thank you for spelling out what I only hinted at): That last queen wrote a book to tell the story of what happened.

Her brother, who was the last king of Hawaii, wrote a book of Hawaiian mythology, too, that is worth checking out if that's your bag.

  • Well, we sort of toppled an empire when we stole Hawaii, it literally was independent

  • Ah yes, the famous definition of a stable genius, if I'm not mistaken!

  • Je suis American and only just learning some French, I'm glad you came along with better notes. Gramercy, in fact!

  • Gramercy, in lieu of "thank you very much." I don't know why, but it's something from Mallory's King Arthur stories that always stuck with me and I think it deserves a revival.

ETA: for those unaware, it's a conjunction of the French gran merci, which translates the same way you probably suspect: big thanks, or grand thanks, or in other words, thank you very much

  • I would so love for every single TSA worker to walk out in protest of this fuckery

  • Let's hope so and be vocal about our support for the union that this administration is trying to crush before our eyes.

  • I mean, it's not like that at all, but it's ok to not care for it still. Lemmy is a federated platform, just like Pixelfed is, and Mastodon, etc. Those would be the providers in the example from before.

Edit to add: Literally every time the word "instance" comes up in the manner noted above, it's woth regard to a Lemmy instance, or a Mastodon instance, and rarely if ever have I noticed a reference to a "fediverse instance". I have no clue where your comparison comes from.

  • I would think the jargon would be "I chose fedia.io as my Lemmy provider," or similar for other federated platforms.

  • Seems like resources should be spent on finding out who called in a fake bomb threat, since that's an actual act of terrorism. But that, of course, is not the message the article is selling.

  • OK, I meant there are a few progressive voices screaming into the void, of course, but it's what we have at the moment and I'm trying my best to stay optimistic
