  • Get ready to install a custom rom without the battery patch.

The patch they put out for the 4A basically bricked the phone. Battery life was halved, and the charge indicator was practically useless (the number could drop massively within minutes), making the remaining half battery unreliable as well.

  • Because the 9A a) costs money, which I currently don't want to spend (especially not on Google), and b) is significantly larger than the 4A, which I specifically bought for it's small form factor.

And I seriously doubt the only way to keep my phone from exploding is to push a patch that makes it so the device itself seemingly has problems figuring it the charge level of the battery it tries to keep from exploding.

I cannot stress enough how god awful this "patch" was. They completely phoned it in, doing just the bare minimum to ward off class action lawsuits or consumer protection agencies.

I will buy a new phone quite soon since CalyxOS also stopped updating it now. But the Pixel A series obviously comes with a major liability now.

  • I got the nerf on the 4A because the battery replacement "option" requirement me to personally being my phone to a repair shop 250km away.

And calling it a nerf is flat out wrong, it's borderline remote bricking. That patch not only slashed battery life in half, but the charge indicator was completely unreliable. I've seen it go from 80 to 30 in an hour (on standby, btw.), then from 30 to 25 in 2 hours.

I've installed CalyxOS, which comes without the nerf.

  • Even within Europe, there was significant scientific progress during said dark ages. It's extremely obvious by just looking at a 9th century building to those from the 14th century (especially churches). The latter require profund knowledge of mathematics/civil engineering. We went from tiny windows in 2m thick brick walls to vast, airy Gothic cathedrals (although those did take a couple of centuries to actually finish).

Although to be fair, that knowledge did largely come to Europe from the scholars of the Arabic world.

  • When a poor kid gets flattened by an SUV, the only reasonable response is to sigh, feel sad for a moment, and then move on.

Not true. You could also call into question why the kid was outside in the vicinity of motor vehicles! Surely the parents can be blamed as well.

  • That's because Google removed the support from chrome after only a few months, and Mozilla never added it to Firefox. And although there's apparently an extension for both, (lossy) image formats need out of the box browser support to have any chance for any kind adoption.

  • It's probably a good general advice to ask your doctor for "local" vaccinations whenever you move.

The encephalitis vaccine is very common here in southern Germany, but usually skipped in the north where ticks are quite uncommon (which is reasonable, since it's pretty aggressive, being sick for a day or two after the jab is not unlikely).

  • AH and PH do form a right angle, that's postulated in the problem. But P is only the projection of H onto the plane if PH is indeed parallel to n. Which is not necessary.

Imagine a nail patrols hammered into a piece of wood at an angle. The wood surface is the plane, the entry point is H and the head of the nail is P. A is anywhere on the line perpendicular to the nail on the board.

If you shine a light from above, you can see P', the projection of P as the end of the shadow cast by thaw nail. Unless the nail is straight, P' != H.

  • That's a fine take. If you realize you're not having fun, there's no shame in stopping. For me, the dopamine rush of finally killing a boss after several attempts is worth it. Although the number of attempts I'm willing to put in is quite limited (~15), and I have quit several games after hitting a road block.
