Besides money/capitalism, why are tech companies trying to push AI text generators over search engines?

  • Your product might not benefit from AI but you definitely can get more VC investment dollars if you bolt an LLM onto the side of it and feature AI as central to what you're offering. This is because VCs treat tech like fashion and don't actually understand how it works or how it would integrate into our lives.

    This was true for the nascent internet, and for blockchain even more, but truly nobody really understands how llms work so its way worse.

  • Former twitter engineer here. Maybe he paid more attention at his other companies but Elon was comically clueless about how the twitter machine worked. Hiring geohot and thinking a firmware cracker could make heads or tails of a massively distributed system was pure idiocy.

  • That's been my survival mechanism. I'd be homeless otherwise but I was able to hyperfixate on work related things and become a workaholic after failing out of school (where I couldn't focus on courses I didn't like).

    My life/work balance has never been good, but its awesome to be fixated on the thing people pay you money to do.
