  • Well yeah. What you believe is literally all reality is. Of course it's important. I believe I'm sitting in a chair typing on my phone right now - if I didn't have those beliefs, my reality would be completely different. That's important

  • I like both comments and long variable / function names. I also like it when people break functions down into excessively fine detail.

Why? Because deleting redundant lines is always easier than figuring out what is going on when you don't have the information you need.

I will name functions by just vomiting out my current train of thought about what the function needs to do. Sometimes it ends up being so long it runs off the page. Good. Now I know exactly what the function does, and anyone in the future will too. But more importantly, an obnoxiously long name draws the ire of everyone who reads it until someone comes up with a better name - usually me, when I'm not actively trying to write the code in the function body. As long as this isn't a public function in a library that is actively being referenced by hundreds of people, the change is easy with modern ide refactoring tools.

  • Well, for starters, a bed frame. Lamps for better lighting, an couple night stands, something to divide up the space a bit (assuming this is a studio), book shelves, some plants, some art on the walls, an area rug, table and chairs, and a couple couches and a coffee table, some kind of speaker system, some kind of storage system for any equipment I own for job and hobbies. I also like wooden desks.

Like, the environment you spend time in has an impact on your mental state. Making that environment nice will make you feel better. The way your living space looks also says a lot about you. What this space says is "I literally do nothing but sleep and look at a computer screen". Which is less "hell yeah" and more "this cyberpunk dystopia isnt as neon as I expected."

So if this is what you want, then follow your bliss I guess. But also, if you are having trouble dating.... Look around you.

  • Really depends on where you are. These people won't get as far in stable communities where people know and talk to each other. If you are doing these things habitually as a way to get ahead, eventually everyone will figure out what is going on and will, at the very least, exclude you from the group.

This pattern is the case with most people who are especially dickish or unpleasant in one way or another. Sure, a very small number of them gain power and influence in the world at large. But most of them live shitty lives. They have few friends, and the friends they do have are shitty like them. They have no money, because they have trouble getting and keeping jobs - even low paying ones. When they manage to find romantic partners, the relationships tend to be tumultuous, since the only people they can attract are just as shitty as they are.

  • Puerto Rico doesn't want to be independent. They regularly have polls on this. About half want to be a state. About half want to keep the status quo. A small fraction favor independence. And it is obvious why - despite all the economic restrictions and lack of representation, the average Puerto Rican is far better off economically with a US passport. Just look at comparable Caribbean island nations - an independent Puerto Rico would have little going for it other than as a stopover for shipping boats and cruise ships. As part of the US, they draw an outsized portion of the Caribbean tourism market, can easily trade with US companies without the impediments of international borders, and can dream that their kids can go to the mainland and study in some of the best universities in the world.

  • I mean, discord is full of disgusting deviants, I'm not surprised.

    You sound asexual. That's fine.

Why did you bring rape up? Seems strange. People can be horny without wanting to rape someone. Being in a relationship has never made me think it was more okay to rape my partner. That's fucked up. I'm gonna chalk up that line of thinking to being unfamiliar with how normal people experience horniness.

I don't think anyone can be voluntarily or involuntarily asexual. It's just kind of an intrinsic trait of your personality. It's like saying you involuntarily have brown hair.

  • No problem.

And you are probably tying the butterfly correctly. It's just easier to untie than an overhand on a bight, which can get absolutely welded under load. But seriously, bowline on a bight is such a sexy knot to untie after loading. It just comes right apart no problem.

  • This would work approximately as well as all the current apps. The people you want to date are either already in relationships, date without using the apps, aren't dating right now, or simply don't want to date you because you aren't their type or aren't good enough for them. The idea that the evil corporations know exactly who your perfect match is and are keeping them from you is a fantasy. The fact is, dating apps don't work for most people because most people don't put the effort in to present themselves well and put themselves out there.

  • For anyone reading this thread, my best advice is to learn to identify the different types of camping in order to identify what will be useful information to you. The bushcrafter has a different objective from the van camper, who has a different objective from the ultralight backpacker.
