  • Drop-in cloud/API replacement for YouTube front-ends. It would keep track of watch history and return recommended videos from an algorithm that's user configurable

  • Perhaps Teams has changed, but in the past I personally found it more efficient for text communication because it forced everything to be a thread. With Slack there's too much variety (messages & threads in channels, direct messages, huddles, canvases) which consistently leads to visibility and findability issues since everyone uses it differently. Though I understand technically they're very similar and the emphasis is mostly visual

  • Same thing for the sequels. Here's an article about it. Maybe it's the passage of time, but I'd say 2 is much more visually stunning than 1

  • Oracle owns Cerner which is the largest healthcare IT provider. I believe by a wide margin...?

  • A warranty is only as good as the company offering it. I'd opt for a shorter warranty with good customer service

  • Could you specify what you mean?

  • My criticism is more than you selecting a provider, not paying for it, know what the problem is then complain it’s not what you need despite knowing it in advance.

I was a paying customer. I was not aware of this functionality being paid. If I had been aware, I wouldn't have used Proton addresses. Now I'm facing the consequences after switching. Others have commented being in the same position,

you can see from the total number of downvotes to your post and the upvotes on my comments

If you think I care, you're wrong. The point of this post is to remind and inform, not argue over technical definitions. If it helps one person then it's served its purpose

  • Is anyone aware of a third-party service for tracking YouTube watch history across devices? That's the missing piece keeping me from switching

  • I have Proton Mail addresses using my domain.

Those are your addresses then not Proton's. Hence why switching is easy and is irrelevant to my complaint which is specific to the domains listed

    Wikipedia says...

In economics, vendor lock-in, also known as proprietary lock-in or customer lock-in, makes a customer dependent on a vendor for products, unable to use another vendor without substantial switching costs.

If I want to switch away I have to pay every month in perpetuity to deliver emails to my new provider. In other words, I'll always have to be a customer

  • Thank you, that's a great callout

  • Privacy @lemmy.ml

Reminder: Proton Mail addresses have vendor lock-in

  • It was a sub-brand of Lego. Saved them from going under actually. Then discontinued and later rebooted (with different designs and parts) and rediscontinuted.

Here's a good doc on the subject: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=126bLUkHuNI

  • Hey! To clarify the maintainer appears to have split their own development. The Play Store is receiving updates and new features that F-Droid is not getting. Can't say I'm a fan of this

  • Yes, I used to use it! Good launcher, but not minimalist as outlined in a different comment

  • Ding ding ding I think this is the answer

Edit: It looks like this is functionally a paid app. You have to pay to get more icons on your home screen, which is pretty ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying for apps. But it's not worth $75 in my opinion

  • Heh, a little too minimalist for me! But thanks for sharing

  • I tried it out. Seems like a nice one and does have backup & restore! But it's not minimalist as described above. I didn't see an option to hide app icons

  • Tried these ones: Olauncher, Oasis, minimalist phone, Indistract, Minimalist Launcher, Productivity Launcher

I think it's a relatively defined launcher category at this point. Typically they're monochrome and text-based. Often have features to limit notifications and track phone usage

  • Android @lemmy.world

Minimal launcher with backup & restore capability?
