  • So hilarious to come to this discussion a few days later and see every post about this particular failing goes unanswered. Even the ride or die Biden people that seem to still want to die on his hill can't really handle the how much he fumbled it.

  • People are upset with democrats because they are out played at every step of the game.

Take Biden's approach to student loans. Given unilateral power to abolish and modify student loan debt, they announced it months in advance, giving time for court cases to stall the order. Court cases that were taken to a court they know was stacked against them by the rules broken by previous republicans. So it amounted to nothing. Reinstating debt is tangible harder to do, and given unilateral powers to do so, Biden chose to ignore those and set himself up for failure.

To see where this failure to recognize the political moment we are in leads, he failed to pick someone to imprison Trump for treason after Jan 6.

  • Depressing to see so many liberals still utterly refusing to understand the point. It's like 'you voted for this' is stuck on loop in their head and they can't comprehend conversation with someone that doesn't apply to.

  • I remember setting up persistent rooms with jitsi that function like discord rooms, I guess not native, but it was from a plugin that was near native. There was also a feature I remember them mentioning for drop in video calls, but I haven't tried those.

I won't argue it's a full replacement, I think you still can't do push to talk or toggle mute, which is pretty disqualifying for me. But it's definitely closer than Telegram or Lemmy.

  • I mean there is the difficult but not acquiescent solution, that coincidentally carries parallels to the real world, of unionizing your work place and using the power of collective bargaining to demand better conditions. This is hard work and takes time and effort, but instead of recognizing that and trying to help, people check out. And those pushing for it are called unrealistic tools of the bad manager and that we demand perfection, while every year the 'lesser evil' manager gets a bit more touchy with his subordinates.

Further in the real world analog of this, the 'lesser evil' manager is bombing children, and driving us towards climate catastrophe. Yes democratic politicians are better then republican ones, but that doesn't negate the point of the meme. They do not give a fuck about you, and they will drive us off the climate cliff, they will bomb more children, they will give more tools to the police state, and they will hire more ICE agents. With such stakes we need to do the hard thing and demand better.

  • It's so strange to see folks randomly adopt this hardcore grindset mentality when AI is mentioned.

At this particular moment, for this particular task I am not seeking to improve my skills

OH, Well I guess you've never cared about a thing in your life and you want robots to take all your joy and fuck your wife??

  • Absolutely, but if one has no idea what they are talking about, they might massive brain worms about the US debt and it being caused by our budget deficit. Then they look at all these other countries and learn about the 'deficit' we have with them and that's the same word, same thing, ezpz. Now you simple get a solid 50% debt to income ratio by dividing the two and cutting it in half, check mate economists.

  • Putting on my best swiss cheese brain, maybe they are treating it 'like a business' and trying to do debt to income ratio? So our deficit is the debt then they look at tariffs on the imported goods as the income.

Do you know if this holds for other countries too?

  • Biden slightly cared about the optics

And hence why people like you were fooled. You had to invent numbers to prove your point because it was never the choice between 150k and 1 million, it has always been the ethnic cleansing of the whole of Palestine. This was in line with ever choice Biden made with regards to Gaza. For optics he "followed the procedure of delivering the food aid" that was stopped at the border, while arming the people threatened to, or actually did, bomb those aid trucks.
