  • I'm sorry, but I asked if you knew what the steps are, how long you're legally required to wait between steps, what paperwork and doctor's visits are required for which step, which step is a "point of no return", that kind of thing. Do you have any knowledge about those topics whatsoever, or are you forming opinions without knowing anything about the topic at hand?

  • I think that, if this question is in good faith, this might be the right time for you to tell us what you think the process is for transitioning. What the steps are, how long you're legally required to wait between steps, what paperwork and doctor's visits are required for which step, which step is a "point of no return", that kind of thing.

We don't know what level your knowledge is at and it's hard to educate someone who is not brave enough to put themselves out there to be corrected.

On the other hand if you don't want to learn today and you just want to feel empowered in your hate, I think Twitter is great for that kind of thing

  • Tbh there's lots of stuff in the Barbie movie that I would consider timeless, especially the feminist aspects of it. What parts of the movie do you think applies to the 2020s but doesn't apply to, say, 1990 or 1960?

EDIT: I may have interpreted this comment too pessimisticly-- this question is about the future, not the past. Maybe, hopefully, societal views on gender will change in the future enough that the Barbie movie will become outdated

  • I had a chance to play for a couple hours this morning, and I'm impressed so far! It's a metroidvania game, but with a souls-like bonfire/estus flask/lose experience on death and try to recover it mechanic. Movement and combat feel fluid, and deflecting attacks feels great. The combat system seems simple right now, but I have barely unlocked any of the systems in the game and it's a metroidvania so I know the complexity will only grow.

The world is beautiful and has a complex history that I want to learn more about, although the dialog is a little bit jointed, probably due to localization issues. There are definitely some aspects of body horror to the game, with humans Apemen from the Big Blue Planet being used as livestock in a creepy, gory, ritualistic fashion in the first level. It's definitely not a horror game, though-- the protagonist is powerful and can fight back against enemies without fear of running out of resources, although combat is definitely unforgiving.

I can tentatively recommend it right now, although I haven't played it enough to give it a full review yet. I haven't played it on my steam deck yet, but I'll give it a shot tonight and give my thoughts over on the steamdeck community

  • Hamas has around 90% approval in Gaza:

    https://apnews.com/article/israel-hamas-palestinians-opinion-poll-wartime-views-a0baade915619cd070b5393844bc4514

I'm sorry, but that's not what the article says. 90% of respondents think Abbas should resign, but that is separate from "approval". FTA:

Despite the devastation, 57% of respondents in Gaza and 82% in the West Bank believe Hamas was correct in launching the October attack, the poll indicated. A large majority believed Hamas’ claims that it acted to defend a major Islamic shrine in Jerusalem against Jewish extremists and win the release of Palestinian prisoners. Only 10% said they believed Hamas has committed war crimes, with a large majority saying they did not see videos showing the militants committing atrocities.

  • Lemmy is small enough that we can care about each other here, man :) I did read it, and man that really fucking sucks. I've been through some similar stuff before, both with severe food aversion and having a narcissistic parent. I understand why you have a negative view of the world right now, and I hope that your circumstances improve. I also hope that you're able to look at the world more charitably regardless of your circumstances, although I think you've got bigger things on your mind right now than emotional growth and that it's totally reasonable for you to prioritize your physical health.

  • Hi! I just read this, and man that is such a frustrating situation to be in. I dealt with severe food aversion when I was in high school, and ended up getting a diagnosis of gastroparesis. Similar to you, there was a day where I just suddenly got "better", although I never recovered to the point of having a normal appetite for a person my size. I never reached the point where the smell of food triggered a gag reflex, but I'm definitely familiar with how personally we take our relationships with food and how that must be affecting you and your family. I've been in situations where I desperately wanted to eat something in order to make someone's effort feel appreciated, but haven't been able to because of my body. When I read about you not being able to get a meatball sub for your daughter, it brought up feelings I hadn't thought about in over a decade.

Do you know of any mutual aid groups that could help you with transportation or lodging or financial aid in Rochester, if you ever have to go back? It may be worth looking for other ways to access care

If enough people keep making things plural by adding apostrophe ess, eventually that will be the correct way to make things plural
