  • I don’t even know who this shit is for. I see the censored memes far more on lemmy than I do any other social media platform. Is this all coming from facebook? Because they themselves are often screenshots of content from tumblr or twitter

  • Fun fact: Alaska was invaded a little bit by Japan during WW2. On Attu Americans suffered heavy casualties from the weather and basically all of the Japanese force was killed in battle. On Kiska there was a pretty bad skirmish between US and Canadian forces resulting from mistaken identity and a ship hit a stray seamine before they found out the island was abandoned anyway. So a real bad time all around but still not really affecting industrial wellness

  • That’s an interesting take. One on one side the death is a haphazard byproduct and on the other it is at least motivated by someone. Somebody has to have a vision for why these weapons need to be used. I’d argue though that in the case of Amazon, wether or not it’s of any priority to them, the suffering would be something worth ironing out over time whereas, for weapons companies, it’s the entire product they sell

  • Yeah but profiting off of starvation, homelessness or sickness is slightly less concerned with destroying human life efficiently, more so extracting value from suffering. Far harder to wiggle your way out of a bomb dropping on you. In that way, defense contractors are especially gross imo. I guess you could argue being blown apart may be more humane though idk

  • I think communities can just take care of each other. Bakers make bread, plumbers lay pipe, gardeners sow plants and those that love each other make sure they’re taken care of. You wouldn’t be able to be an asshole that just takes from the world around you because nobody would have a reason to make sure your water is running. Your time is compensated by a social contract

  • Capitalism doesn’t free us from any of that, community does. It’s standing on the shoulders of giants and advancing our understanding of the world that saves infants and puts food on tables. Not people who own the tools skimming off the top from the people that do the work

  • The revolution will not be brought to you by xerox without commercial interruption, the revolution will not go better with coke, the revolution will not fight germs that may cause bad breath, the revolution will put you in the driver’s seat

  • It’s bad in the richest bluest states too. Unless you’re living in the suburbs going to a district that serves upper class families, the education system in the US will invariably fail you in one way or another
