FWIW, Gabe’s argument isn’t against subscriptions. The point in that quote is that legal access to content curbs piracy. Piracy will of course always exist, but there’s also customers that are willing to pay if is convenient and accessible.
My guess is that Lemmy is a new platform. The fediverse is also new to most people (myself included) and that leads to people genuinely replying to posts instead of trolling around.
Something along the lines of “Luna” or Lunar” would fit well because of the inspiration from the Apollo app, and the fact that our moon is a satellite. The satellite metaphor could tie into supporting the broader fediverse while the app itself is the satellite. I also like other space related names like Orbit, Portal, or Transport.
I quickly switched to feedly after the Google reader sunset, but I mostly access feedly via Reeder on Apple products. The feedly website works well when needed though.
There’s no third party app store support in iOS 17 or iPadOS. I wouldn’t expect something like the altstore to get better until third party stores are officially supported.
That’s inherent to the fediverse. You have to specify which instance you’re referring to. The wording between “community” or “sublemmy” isn’t actually helpful when you have to provide the instance domain anyway.
Does it matter if Apple starts supporting RCS? If they start supporting it, they'll still treat it like SMS - green bubbles and all.
