"Aww, surely he didn't mean it exactly like he said it. We must give him the benefit of the doubt since he is a rich and respectable person who wouldn't say something like that."
"No, please. Do not give me the benefit of the doubt. I mean it - I WILL literally kill you if I get elected again."
"That could mean anything, surely he wouldn't imply that he would kill us if he got elected. He must have misspoken or meant something else."
Corporations want gamers to want mass subscriptions because they want to rent out their games forever instead of getting only a single payment for their product. And then they find flimsy excuses to push subscriptions for products that do not warrant subscriptions but are mutilated to squeeze some way of adding subscriptions into them. And then the corporations let games without subscriptions fail while pretending that subscription-based services are delivered because there's demand and not because they don't want to deliver finished products that don't generate easy endless trickling revenue streams.
It is important to see both sides here though: How is he supposed to maximally exploit his wage slaves when they are allowed to organise and offer resistance to being exploited? Hmm?
One plus is that it takes more than one autocratic greedy wannabe tyrant to enshittify your entire experience by forcing ads upon you while taking away all the good but not ad-delivery-optimised tools.
Not even remotely. That is just the production method of copious cheap labour. Just make them multiply uncontrolled by instilling a dislike of anything in the way of birth control, make them docile and exploitable by telling them that unions are evil and corporations are the best there is and their friends and make them unaware of better systems by limiting their education to how great their own country is (and absolutely nothing else).
That caste is then not who gets to run things. That burden lies upon the rich ones who actually enjoy private education and have all the money they don't have to spend on fair wages etc.
Windows is just the vehicle to distribute their yearly subscription of the office package. It's already a freemium model. You can't outrace greed with your worst-case musings.
That's not the "gotcha" it should be. If anything results in future generations becoming ignorant, gullible and uncritically docile towards authorities, that's just the system working as intended.
Remember when the maga clowns' favourite insult for Obama was "King Obama" because of some perceived presidential overreach issues? If they had any moral integrity, pointing out these double standards would make them think.
