  • "How do we get rid of all these bottles, boss?"

Boss looks at huge empty well.

"There's nothin' cheaper than throwin' 'em down that hole we sucked all the water out of! Who's gonna care?"

  • This is well known and Ernest is working on a passel of fixes, and is really spread thin. I'd suggest tagging him for any bug (new or not) vs reporting an issue via bugtracker is counterproductive, and probably just adding to his stress.

  • Yeah, based on the entirety of the comment chain, upvoted because it fits the sub, then blocked because this is quite a lot of vitriol to bring to some cheerful puppets, it completely ignores how groundbreaking Sesame Street was in some ways, and OP literally shits on an entire medium (puppetry) which they've clearly not considered in enough depth to do so.

OP has a valid opinion based on an entirely superficial view of everything they are ranting against. They are welcome to such an opinion, but I find it unlikely I'll miss their contribution to other discussions.

Edit - I'll leave this because it's tangentially relevant, and one of ERB's best (IMO). https://youtu.be/PXBJIZ1NXFU

  • fuck off and go back to the borders that were drawn in the 1967 UN Security Council resolution.

Yeah I ran across this awhile ago posted by BjĂśrk, and have been wondering if it's factual. Paints a bit of a different picture of the motivations of Palestinians in general if true:

I'd be interested to see the 2023 version.

  • "Sir, we can only count all these dollars so fast!"

"Fine, cut back consumer prices. But only 0.1% mind you!" (wrings hands and chuckles while imagining all the folks choosing between healthcare and food)

  • Made a phone call that got a completely innocent person killed.

  • You think the platform is the widget, I think the content is the widget. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

  • In that case I'd be selling something made by the entity giving me commission - what people want and pay for is something made by someone other than me. In this case the people creating the content are the same people drawing the subscribers, so it's more accurate to say substack takes a cut of their subscription income than to say substack pays them.

If I stop selling widgets the company still has the exact same widgets and can get anyone else to sell them. If a renowned nazi writer (bleh) takes their content to another platform, substack no longer has that content (or the author's presence on their platform) to profit from.

  • They are being paid by subscribers, not by substack. I am not on substack's side here, but that detail seems quite relevant if we're interested in painting an accurate picture of what's going on.

If they were putting Nazi content on substack and no individuals were subscribing to read it, they would be earning 0.

Substack is profiting from those same subscribers, no doubt.

  • It's really worth reading the full article - but be sure you are prepared for the buckets of schadenfreude.

  • You should check out recent articles from The Onion. They have absolutely pulled out all the stops and gone full-IDGAF.

  • You come up with a solution to fixing the actual problem, I'm all ears.

Though if I'm completely candid, I find it a bit annoying that you've taken the time to wag your finger at me for this entire conversation over a problem that is arguably decades or even centuries old because I say I support and will continue to support black history month.

  • Since that problem has not been fixed and is actively getting worse in recent years, I'm going to continue supporting Black History Month (and Pride Month, and and and...)

  • No no, that's the outcome if black folks rise up. The magas are mostly white. They'll be gently escorted back to their homes.

  • Yep that's him. I became aware of him yesterday when he told us all it's not the 50s anymore, so no queer people are afraid of coming out anymore. This guy's handle should be confidentlyincorrect65837.

  • Every year I read interesting articles that spring up online and also are put out by my employer during black history month. It exposes me to viewpoints I might not chase down and expose myself to on my own. I come away from it feeling like I have a bit of a deeper understanding about how our country's past continues to impact the experiences of black people today in the US.

At no point have I felt excluded for being white, nor threatened by what has been shared. If you have been, that says way more about you than it does about black history month.

  • Imagine living in the 2020’s in the developed world and not realizing that internet access is a basic necessity.

Then imagine being the sort of person who would deny poor people basic necessities
