  • Anyone with eyeballs and ears understands what this man is, what this man did, and what he evokes from his followers. Why do I need a court to confirm it for me to want him nowhere near the levers of power ever again? He'll stop living in my head when he stops trying to take control of the country.

  • Anyone else have a bit of smoldering rage that everyone knows what went on, and so far no one but Ghislane Maxwell, Epstein himself and one prince have had even an ounce of trouble from it?

Kinda how Trump will die of old age one day still living a 1% lifestyle and having never seen the inside of a prison.

  • I felt exactly this way, but within a few weeks of yanking the nicotine out it started feeling dumb to me. YMMV of course, but you might be surprised at how your viewpoint changes once the active ingredient is no longer there. (I'm not claiming THC is like nicotine, just to be clear.)

  • Vaping works wonders because with custom mixed juice you can dial back the nicotine content to barely anything over time, then eventually to 0. In the meantime you just keep using it the same way.

Having done this myself, you'd be amazed how quickly you start going "WTF am I doing this for?" after that final step to 0.

There seems to have been a coordinated attempt to stomp out the idea of vaping as a smoking cessation tool, but given how relatively cheap and easy it can be, it's hard for me not to pull out my tinfoil hat when I wonder why that was.

I tried cold turkey, gum, patches, wellbutrin, and probably other methods I've forgotten about over decades. With vaping it was a no brainer.

Not saying these other methods may not also work but I feel like technology has handed us the obvious solution, and while many ex-smokers have figured it out, seemingly no one else has.

  • Yeah that's pretty fucked up. Sounds like the punishment for trying to kill yourself is intentional maiming or possible death. Sheesh.

Now I am kinda negative on the idea.

  • The nets — placed 20 feet (6 meters) down from the bridge’s deck — are not visible from cars crossing the bridge. But pedestrians standing by the rails can see them. They were built with marine-grade stainless steel that can withstand the harsh environment that includes salt water, fog and strong winds

20 foot drop onto "nets" made of stainless steel? I feel like this may still be a fatal fall.

Edit: I'm not negative on the idea, but it sounds like you are still having a pretty bad time if one of these nets saves your life.

  • My headcanon is now that Hinckley is a kbin or lemmy user with a time machine.

  • I use Sonixd as the frontend to my Navidrome server, and it's the bees knees.

  • Whomever is still claiming that Bernie doesn’t speak truth to power anymore

Who ever claimed that? It's essentially been the man's entire career. If he wasn't publicly speaking up early enough in this case, I'm sure it's because he was bending ears behind the scenes.

Not arguing with you, just sort of aghast that anyone (magas excepted - but we expect their opinions to be trash) would try to claim he's not a true servant of the people.

  • Brave Republicans at all levels of government, from local officials like Richer to Sen. Mitt Romney (UT), have been warning us of the dangers going into 2024. They have seen the recent rise in right-wing political violence, most notably on January 6, and seen how comfortable Trump is with openly directing his supporters to hurt people.

So brave to stand up to the monster they created.

  • Ah so can I pull this article out when I have to hear again how "moderate" Republicans are (finally) done allowing Trump and the other fascists to completely take over their party and we should all pretend they didn't support and create this monster in the first place and uncritically accept their crocodile tears about what a laughingstock party full of fascist hatemongers their party has become shown itself to be?

  • So, like usual, DRM only fucked the people trying to play by the rules.

  • You should try Linux because you want to and find it interesting to learn. If you are doing it because other people told you to, you are going to have a bad time.

Linux isn't Windows with different branding. Things work differently, and if you take the time to understand why you'll usually see the logic eventually, even if you may not to agree with it. I think folks are bristling a bit at your implication that things are hard on purpose somehow. Many experienced users find the terminal easier to use and more efficient; it shouldn't shock anyone (including you) that it's going to feel awkward when you don't understand it yet.

Howtos tend to use the terminal because it's likely to work the same for everyone regardless of what other choices they've made with desktop environment, etc.

You can do nearly everything with a GUI if you choose.

  • Both options will install the Mullvad client from the AUR. (If you use an arch derivative, that already tells you some things. If you don't, then you are missing some context.) The first option will install from binary, the second will compile from source. Which you choose is up to you.

If you blindly chose one over the other because you didn't know, worst case you end up being impatient if it takes awhile to compile from source.

  • And seriously, how did "Jam" see that covered hole in the floor and not go "Cool, an old well!"
