  • Every "instance" of Lemmy is like an island. Every island has it's own population. It has it's own admin team with their own culture and ideals. It's one of the strengths of Lemmy. Don't like reddit's admins? Deal with it or leave. Don't like lemmy.ml's? Okay just go to lemmy.world or thelemmy.club or any other instance. They're all connected (unless they decide they don't want to be.... but for the most part they are connected), and you can comment and like and post to communities on other instances.

196 was originally on lemmy.blahaj.zone, but they seemingly have some kind of issue with the admin team there, apparently banning some users in a way that they disagreed with. So they decide to move to lemmy.world. But they never told the users or asked so everyone is kinda mad about that. Not everyone likes lemmy.world, especially since blahaj is known for being super-trans freindly and so is 196.

It looks like they decided to not move after all the drama though so...

  • They have decided to move to lemmy.world with zero warning

  • I dunno if app stores are gonna bring it back though.

The law stipulates like, ridiculously massive (seriously like $5k PER USER) fines for hosting it. I dunno if a legally-dubious pinky promise from Trump will be enough for them.

  • You can drag it somewhere else or run it from the DMG? You can run apps outside that folder....

It's not "dragging the .dmg into your Applications folder", you mount the .DMG then drag the .app inside and move it where you like (a shortcut to your /Applications is provided)

The DMG also gives it compression. It's not an "installer", it's more a form of zip file. Like a .zip it allows publishers to bundle guides, photos, etc.

Besides the "just drag" method is so much better than clicking through an installation wizard. But some apps use .PKG files which is an installer wizard.

There's tons of legitimate arguments made against macOS but this seems like just unfamiliarity.

  • Do you really feel you're lacking in compute resources?

How does Lemmy scale with more active users?

  • Japanese Kanji are based on Chinese characters so you'll have a headstart in that department.

The rest of the language is completely unrelated though

  • Yeeees, but the two won't generally see each other unless they try. That's my understanding.

  • Sysadmin, but those don't have a ton of activity

  • Lol that would be an absolute mess. And they'd end up having to redo everything from the ground up because Bytedance isn't gonna hand over encryption keys and would probably wipe everything important if they knew that was coming

  • I mean, "[problem] + Lemmy" works

Actually put Lemmy in quotes and it'll return better results

  • LIKE LORD VOLDEMORT from Harry Potter,

Literally the first line lmao was this meant to be a parody

  • Well it's a good thing they banned TikTok because it has "Closed, source, manipulative and harmful algorithms" and not for some other reason

  • Rule

  • More police in an area CAUSES more crime to happen. And what's our response to higher crime? MORE COPS!

What useful responsibilities they do have could all be replaced by other people. Most of those do not need to be armed hotheads who don't fully grasp laws they're supposed to enforce.

  • Pork can be done all the way down to medium rare now that Trichinosis has basically been eradicated from pork. Though most say it's best at medium.

  • Tiananmen Square is like, a huge tourist attraction and plaza near their equivalent of the White House and other important government complexes I'm sure they've seen a ton of photos of it. They hold national events there.
