Supporting the violence is participating in it. Maybe you're on the "good" side but still. If you work a normal 9-5 go home shoot the shit with your buds and volunteer at a homeless shelter.... You're still not a good person when your job is making bombs getting shipped to Israel.
Remember the current Lemmy community was made and populated by people who jumped ship from one site to another due to site drama so we uh, might be really easy to get going.
AFAIK if an app was installed by dragging it to Applications, there's no way it could still run after you delete it. The actual executable is contained within the .app file.
It is true that uninstalled apps can leave files behind in other places though. Which is a problem on all platforms.
Every "instance" of Lemmy is like an island. Every island has it's own population. It has it's own admin team with their own culture and ideals. It's one of the strengths of Lemmy. Don't like reddit's admins? Deal with it or leave. Don't like lemmy.ml's? Okay just go to lemmy.world or thelemmy.club or any other instance. They're all connected (unless they decide they don't want to be.... but for the most part they are connected), and you can comment and like and post to communities on other instances.
196 was originally on lemmy.blahaj.zone, but they seemingly have some kind of issue with the admin team there, apparently banning some users in a way that they disagreed with. So they decide to move to lemmy.world. But they never told the users or asked so everyone is kinda mad about that. Not everyone likes lemmy.world, especially since blahaj is known for being super-trans freindly and so is 196.
It looks like they decided to not move after all the drama though so...
I dunno if app stores are gonna bring it back though.
The law stipulates like, ridiculously massive (seriously like $5k PER USER) fines for hosting it. I dunno if a legally-dubious pinky promise from Trump will be enough for them.
You can drag it somewhere else or run it from the DMG? You can run apps outside that folder....
It's not "dragging the .dmg into your Applications folder", you mount the .DMG then drag the .app inside and move it where you like (a shortcut to your /Applications is provided)
The DMG also gives it compression. It's not an "installer", it's more a form of zip file. Like a .zip it allows publishers to bundle guides, photos, etc.
Besides the "just drag" method is so much better than clicking through an installation wizard. But some apps use .PKG files which is an installer wizard.
There's tons of legitimate arguments made against macOS but this seems like just unfamiliarity.
