  • Oh I wouldn't bet a dollar on being able to convince Americans they have other options, despite them having a system where basically anyone can run for office. They're completely enraptured with the consensus reality you express here and the political system is designed to keep them engaged in it. Only when you lose faith in this reality will anything change, the material conditions of your life will convince you.

  • Project 2025 is a new iteration of something latent in your political system, Reagan was the first to explicitly reference unitary executive theory in signing statements which Bush Jr. also did.

Ultimately your founders didn't define what the office of the president really means, and presidents have explored and pushed this position to the limits it exists as today. Trump maybe will succeed in finally exposing the critical faults that lie in the country's founding notions.

My whole life since Reagan Democrats have been appealing to the idea that "this is the last chance" for democracy in the US in order to double-down on the consenting arrangement that has only spiraled further to the right, resulting in the current situation. Maybe it's been true this whole time, but this "just vote Dem so we can fix it later" thing is clearly just making it worse, else you wouldn't be in this situation.

  • That's the consensus reality you've accepted yes, it's also what got you to this situation and what will keep you on this downward spiral, until the social contract erodes to the point enough people lose faith in this consensus reality.

  • My only hope in the US right now as a socialist, is that the current neoliberal death spiral between the two consenting parties will eventually lead to people saying enough is enough in a meaningful political way, that combined with labor organizing. Every use of the word "realistic" to bolster the current arrangement of the parties is evidence they're still comfortable with it in some manner and believe in it, that they still consent to this "reality." The continued erosion of the social contract will change this over time, then they'll either turn their dissatisfaction towards an internalized "other," or they will choose the solidarity option and throw the bosses of their backs.

Accepting things are bad and displaying how this affects you to others is the bare minimum to even begin to organize against this system. Any time a Democrat supporter tries to do the "realistic" or "clearly better but not good" thing they're rationalizing and regulating what should be a display of revulsion.

  • The political form of our economic system. Military industrial complex is what defines foreign policy based on the exploitation of other country's resources on behalf of private companies. This is where the money that funds politics comes from. Politics no longer determine this economic arrangement because both parties consent to it.

  • E-discovery and market simulation tools have basically been using these sort of models for a long time. I think "AI" is a misnomer and more of a branding/marketing term, reserved for the latest iteration of these tools, what used to be called "AI" is given a generic term describing it's use, and the new thing becomes AI until the next significant improvements are made and it happens again.

The thing where people think these new language models are going to create a "real" artificial intelligence basically confirms this, it's almost a religious belief. The mythology around this iteration of "AI" is creating hype beyond what it's technically capable of.

  • Yeah I really don't care if I'm stealing in this context, I care if I'm stealing from independent content creators. Another thing is I know I can't afford all the music I listen to, but I can afford to go to shows of my favorite artists. Piracy is often completely transparent of any content distribution strategies so I find it a great way to explore music.

  • Doesn't look too bad in this light, it's the even daylight where the idea of it doesn't show. I think it's ugly but can look cool in certain light like this, the top section bright and the lower shadowed. Should have been a concept car cause of obvious reasons producing it at scale.

Part of me respects a design that can be so provocative. It shows how people care about design, and reminds me how boring and "nothing" a lot of the objects we interact with on a daily basis are.

  • Well the one that keeps me needing a Windows machine for on... Ableton Live + VST plug-ins.

Musicbrains Picard is also the best metadata autotag app I've used.

"Reclaim Windows" type powershell scripts, feel like group policy and powershell are underutilized by average desktop users. A lot of the things people complain about with windows you can control with it. Primarily a debain user myself but I need Windows to run Ableton on custom hardware so it is what it is.

  • Yup this is how we do it, don't count anything lower than gp either. Game time passes but not real time, and if you bargain you make corresponding roles, DM can decide if you get advantage or disadvantage depending on the context.

  • Just the phrase "both sides" on it's own can get this ridiculous charade going. Both sides are political parties in the US, both sides further America's geopolitical interests, both sides are largely financed by corporate donors who donate to both parties, both sides are economically right wing, both sides engage and amp up the post-political partisan spectacle. "HEY THIS RUSSIAN TROLL SAID THE BAD WORDS!"

  • Oh look an American "adult in the room." This is SERIOUS guise don't even talk about Biden, you let him smell your hair and talk real solutions or you get Trump! And no dunks allowed if I see you dunking you're a Russian troll!

  • The way I see it in America is any real left political representation was destroyed during the cold war and the liberals co-oped the language of the left while cleansing it of it's economic ramifications. When you think of how many activists and organizers in the 60s were openly socialists vs today it tells a lot. MLK Jr. and Rosa Parks for instance are these liberal heroes but their significance as socialists is completely whitewashed, they're "courageous individuals" now who "inspire," not radicals who had a wholly different vision of American society.

Phil Ochs summarized a liberal as "ten degrees to the left of center in good times, ten degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally."

  • Elect Dems: get invasions and genocides but don't worry we love you <3 uwu >.< (this message is brought to you by the CIA's EDI "Authentically Me" program, we ensure each and every bomb dropped on you was manufactured in Raytheon's inclusive workplace)

Elect GOP: get invasions and genocides but were mericuhh so deal with it bishh
