  • They tied it in knots so hard that it will refuse to respond to so many perfectly boring scenarios with the equivalent of 'I'm sorry Dave...'.

Not only that but recent updates have for some reason eviscerated it's effectiveness with programming queries.

  • I'm a bit older than you and I feel much the same. Such minimal authority over others can really destroy a human being.

  • True words. Like anything else though, if you want niche - you get niche. You've got to put in the work yourself. I assume apple supports calDAV better because they stole the protocol and based their own calendar events system on it.

  • Thankfully outlook and corporate outlook accounts are wonderfully supported under Android these days and have been the industry standard for decades.

You want to use some niche calendar protocol from 2007, you're going to need a plugin or third party app.

  • Same deal with android phones these days as long as you actually sync all your apps, photos and contacts with your Google account.

Even my external app licensing transferred successfully on my recent upgrade and it only took about 30 minutes.

  • Spot on. Anyone cooperating with them is a fool.

  • Were you aware before or after viewing that shapeshifting was an allegory for being trans?

  • Ohh I had to avoid that sub. Too many spoilers, I started late!

  • Jesus christ dude, how many books do you read?!

It takes me about 30 minutes to find, download, convert to KEPub and load onto my Kobo about 6-12 months worth of books. I curse the day that Brandon Sanderson entered my life. He writes them faster than I have the opportunity to read them.

  • They're not actually that bad on fuel. Don't get me wrong, I'd never own one but a few of our major players at work have them as some sort of status symbol. Cruising in overdrive at 100km/h they can go as low as 6L/100km, but average is around 12L/100km unless you are doing lots of hunting through the gearbox or driving like a dick, then you can see some truly disturbing fuel usage figures.

To put it in perspective, this is on par with a modern hilux, and WORLDS better than the 2022 79 series landcruiser even with all the fuel efficiency gains they made.

To be clear I still don't think anyone should be driving one here - our roads and car parks are simply not built for them. They aren't that great offroad either. Really the only genuine use case is towing an enormous caravan down the hwy, in which case I hate you anyway because that's TWO symbols of you being an inconsiderate prick that doesn't care about anyone else.

  • Please, no. Can we have a little decorum here?

  • The current gen GPU's really cemented the idea in my head that fairly soon the GPU will just be the motherboard, and everything else will just tack onto it. The daughterboard becomes the motherboard.

They're just getting ludicrously large, and they use more power than the rest of the PC combined. Makes sense to me to just accept it, make it even bigger based around an absolutely enormous copper block, make it so that you just plug AC power straight into it and all of the components have a little home much like this M.2 Idea.

  • Actually pretty smart if you are not using all of those PCI lanes.

  • Yarr, a great instance she be! Strong and true through dark waters.

Great work here matey! Didn't even slow down with the influx today.

  • This is really the core element people seem to be worried about. You build a community, you post a heap of content, you have charge of moderation and then suddenly your chosen instance dies, or you get banned.

I think there will eventually be a fix, but encourage everyone to remember that this, the biggest weakness of the platform is also its greatest strength. Personally I have created my communities on a different instance than the one I post on daily. It's a larger instance and the only thing on that account are post submissions - I use lemmy.dbzer0 to browse and comment daily because I like its interface and local community the best.

It annoyed me at first, but I've learned to see the value in having separate yet interlinked spaces. I have also duplicated that community and some content on another instance. It has zero traffic, but I don't trust anyone or anything these days.

  • I'm not really a big fan of this facebook meme, because I'd take the solo boat and some basic paddles any day over a large ship full of idiots with no means to propel itself.

  • I've read your replies in here. Some of your requests are misguided. You want Android 8 or 9 because anything newer will come with "more garbage"? That simply isn't true, and there are a plethora of useful features that only arrived in Android 12 onwards.

Any bloatware can be dealt with, any animations you deem superfluous can be disabled, you can change out the launcher for something with zero bloat like Lynx.

You simply won't find anything half reasonable to use that doesn't have a front camera. Stick some tape over it if you are worried.

Ignoring the rest, the best deal you will find somewhere within that price range is a Galaxy S20 FE 5G.

I just bought two brand new units for my parents on ebay for $370AUD which = $250 USD.

This was the last flagship (or flagship adjacent) Samsung with a MicroSD slot. Samsung is well catered for by most of the debloating scripts around github via ADB or you can apply root method and get it clean as a whistle.

SOC is a Snapdragon 865, it supports 5G global bands really well, the cameras kick arse but aren't crazy (12MP), it has a really great wide-angle sensor too. It's got a higher refresh rate but low resolution, so the sizeable battery leads to an extremely generous use time. Multiple days for someone like you.

Honestly I'm not sure why'd you'd like to spend $200 on an absolute piece of junk as per your specs when you could spend $250 on a new in-box device that will blow your socks off.

  • What an absolute legend. Also, I do so solemnly swear that any instance caught federating with meta is going straight in my hosts file.

    You have been warned.
