  • Who the hell is falling victim to phone sales tactics in this day and age? Seriously. The market has never been more free. I would like to think we don't have too many people left on earth that can be talked into a bad deal just because you manage to get them on the phone. Good luck to ya, but I won't be your mark.

  • Biosphere (2023).

Watched it because I'm a fan of doomsday scenarios. The former president of the United states starts spontaneously growing a vagina and uterus because 'life uuuh, finds a way'.

I won't wreck the rest of the plot but this movie took a fucking wild turn and left me sitting there the whole time going WTF!

  • Just ignore these people if you can. There's a major push on at present, all over the internet this exact argument is being made again and again.

There's no such thing as merit or hard work. Everything is systemic racism and class privilege. Nothing is earned, everything is given - unless you happen to be BIPOC, in which case you are the master of your own universe and a humble genius just waiting for your chance to shine.

It's intentional racism to try and even the playing field after centuries of genuine systemic racism, but it isn't organic and it isn't right. Don't let them take up too much headspace.

  • Are you ok, dude/dudette?

I really enjoy my downtime being genuine downtime but I can't imagine feeling like this.

  • And why would anyone be the least bit surprised? Copy paste facebook and all of its very genuine issues. It's not a social platform, it's an advertising platform.

  • Your reading comprehension isn't my issue to fix. I didn't say a word about centrism. As soon as your ego got hurt you come at me with this nonsense. It's cool, you can still grow from this and have it be worth the time taken.

  • I've been a hardcore pirate for 30 years. I still buy a lot of games even when empress has broken the denuvo implementation. I always have and always will use piracy in place of a decent playable demo. Consider it market research. If your product is shit, or I finish it in a day then you don't get my money.

  • And my comment had nothing to do with bob's second point about centrism, only the first about surrounding yourself with radicals of any political ideology.

  • All I want is a buckling spring keyboard! Can't even get a Unicomp shipped to Australia for a reasonable price, and anything that comes up locally is $400+.

So annoying. I used to dispose of them in their hundreds when I worked in IT. If only I knew.

  • Not really. I'd say he sees the modern issues we face better than you. It's an issue of echo chambers. If you concentrate a community only with people who share your ideology, especially radical ideology it just amplifies it within that community and achieves little else.

People begin to believe that their worldview is the dominant one, because they're entirely unopposed in their thinking. They are never challenged on any major belief, so the discourse is almost pointless and just spends its time running around the edges of difference.

It also breeds laziness, because you never have to defend your position. Mostly just ends up as communities that share memes with eachother which I shouldn't need to point out is pretty pointless.

  • I really didn't enjoy the movie but it was solely for this reason. It made me feel physically sick the entire time. I guess it's powerful in that regard.

  • Happy Gilmore is high art.

  • I do not support this idea. You know what they say about having a cracked tail light whilst you're driving around with a car full of cocaine.

That's a no from me, dawg. Defederate before they can suck up any data at all.

  • Denuvo uses a kernel-mode driver as part of its overall malware deployment. If you don't know why that is a problem, I can't help you.

  • Most GOG games ship entirely free of protection, it's kind of their thing. As for steam, getting around the online checks is trivial.

The issue is ownership of the goods you bought. If the barrier to ownership is slight, I don't have a big issue with it. Denuvo is a serious barrier and has serious impacts on performance.

  • I am vehemently opposed to Denuvo because I have personally compared the Denuvo protected product VS the cracked product and the performance impact of Denuvo was nothing short of horrific.

My paid experience was worlds worse than the experience of those that chose not to pay, and there is no legal way for me to get that same experience. To be clear, not all games are impacted so badly but many are.

Having said that, if a developer wants some form of DRM on their game because they (wrongly) believe not having one will affect sales then I do believe they should have a right to do so. I just think that there should be a legally mandated time limit on how long they are allowed to do so. 12 months from release seems fair. After 12 months, you have moved most of your units. Sales after this point basically come down to special offers and how well you support and maintain the multiplayer portion of your release.

I would personally choose to wait the 12 months until I can actually own the game, and as a sort of litmus test for the long term viability of the franchise. If there is still a significant playerbase after 12 months then it's probably worth my money.

  • Its truly bizarre behaviour. Like some kind of psychological phenomenon where the company don't want their time wasted by tyre kickers who aren't serious.

Works both ways though. Put your prices up or I will just assume you aren't competitive and skip you.
