    • SchildiChat Next
    • Open Camera (installed due to this post! replacing the default samsung camera app)
    • Fennec
    • SimpleX
    • Fossify Phone
  • selfhosted AI is 1000% more confidential than a human therapist; but stuff like ChatGPT? yeah stay away from those

  • super productivity is FOSS, with tags

  • learn C, so you can appreciate rust

  • in general, you would want something fast (probably something that fits in your GPU/VRAM) so you can get suggestions as fast as you can type. for chat, you'll probably want the most intelligent/lorgest model you can run, it's likely fine if it's running on the CPU/RAM since the quality of an individual answer is more important than the speed in which many small answers can be generated. so, probably qwen for both, but, different sizes/quant for different use cases.

  • are you looking for autocomplete or chat?

  • for anyone looking for a cheap hobby, try coding, there are plenty of free resources to learn, and you can get started on almost any computer (or even an android phone!)

  • games! in maybe 95% of cases you can find an open alternative to some (non-game) software, but with games it's the opposite.

i would say that the main proprietary softwares i still use, are video games

  • playing a game for fun vs playing a game to feel better than others

  • download blender, turn on optix, and enter the rabbit hole ;)

  • i love pixelorama, its really nice to use.

also if anyone is interested: i have a PXO plugin for bevy that i dont really maintain actively, but if someone asks i can update it for whatever the latest version of bevy is

  • *unless it's an open source community-driven project

  • i use simplex with people i used sms with before, and matrix for everything else

  • it would be nice, especially for users like me, who only use lemmy on mobile

(also see the issue on github)
