  • aussie friend! mine does the exact same pose/expression on the couch, hehe.

  • this is why i love posting videos. i don’t see this at all! haha.

  • just wanted to acknowledge how nice it is that you reply to and engage with everybody’s posts. 😊

what happened in the countryside, if you don’t mind sharing?

  • the foster dog fail got the go-ahead from the vet to do agility, so coco echo is here to stay! i took her to a 30-minute agility lesson on friday, and she learned jump, tire, tunnel, dog walk, and A-frame. yesterday, she started working on the teeter and is so enthusiastic about learning new things.

one of my goals this year was to not get another dog, but sometimes the right dog comes along and... yeah. i think my partner will be happy to have a break from fostering, since that's always a bit of a gamble. three is the maximum i can care for, so it'll be awhile before i foster again. i still need to get the paperwork together (and write the check), but once that's done she'll officially be part of the family. <3

  • goofy foster pic from the other night.

  • little dog is heartworm free, so she got to run her first two practice fast CATs on saturday afternoon. the weather was perfect, and she was only a jerk for a little while when i tried to catch her the first time. photo below of the car ride home.

i slipped and fell onto my elbow last night running after the dogs, so i took the day off to rest and ice it. feeling a lot better now and the swelling has gone down.

  • it’s been a minute since i’ve dated around, since i’ve been with my current partner for nearly eight years. but i love dating, even awkward first dates.

    • i’d say i tend to know pretty quickly, like a date or two in. sometimes the first date if we really hit it off.
    • i like getting a drink or two for the first date. low stakes, and i can make the excuse that i need to let my dogs out if i need to ditch it quickly. later, i like activity dates like swimming in the lake, a bike ride, hike, or rock climbing back when i used to do that. once we’re established as a couple, i love movie dates!
    • tends to be a couple of months. once i see how our schedules mesh, if they’re willing to compromise with me on certain things, meet some of their friends, etc.
    • i’ve always used dating apps. child of the internet and all.
    • shared values for sure. physical and sexual attraction are top tier as well. i used to think money didn’t matter, but after dating somebody with a very different income, it was tough for things not to feel imbalanced.

my partner and i still go on dates once a week. :)

  • if she’s cleared for an agility career, she’s gonna be a foster fail. 😅

    • repairing three bikes. one is a total rebuild. the other two only have minor issues.
    • crocheting two baby blankets for twins. they were already born, but they’ll still appreciate the blankets i’m sure!
    • getting my foster dog a clean bill of health. she’s got a wrist injury that’s being looked at next week by an orthopedic specialist.

    foster dog tax

  • little dog is getting a second heartworm test. her first one came back positive today, which is odd because she’s been on preventatives the past three years. fingers crossed it’s just a fluke and we won’t have to do the four month treatment which involves exercise restriction.

pupdate: the other two tests came back negative, so she’s heartworm free! the vet was baffled and going to see how that first test came back positive twice.

  • i’m not religious, but boy howdy do i love a good secular ritual! i’ve been celebrating the equinoxes, solstices, and cross-quarters with bonfires recently. it’s a nice way to observe the passage of time. i also draw a tarot card once a day to reflect on, and an oracle card once a week.

a friend of my hosts full moon parties, which i also love.

  • the foster dog still has a limp in her right front leg after she’s been napping, so i’m setting her up for a vet appointment.

RAGBRAI (largest organized cycling event) announced the route for this year, which will be shortish but also very, very hilly. guess i’ll need to get some hill training in before july!

i’m taking some time off alcohol, currently on day 10 with the plan being to stay sober until valentine’s day. i really only drink on weekends when i am drinking, but it had gotten a little out of hand with the holidays like it tends to, so a break was much appreciated.

  • some of us are (very) slow drinkers but still want hot coffee. i usually make my coffee at 9am and don’t finish it until just before noon.

granted, i don’t have one of these tumblers. i do make my coffee in one of their camping french press thingies though, then move it to a different thermos vessel for drinking.

  • i don’t drive often, maybe once or twice a week, and the car always has NPR on. other than that, i’ll skim headlines, but don’t tend to read them unless it’s something positive or local.

i do read up on the candidates nearing election day.

  • that sounds exhausting. i hope you have fun!

  • busy, busy weekend. took coco (foster dog) to the community garden volunteer day on saturday morning. my partner had his birthday bash at a local music venue where his band and his friends' bands played. came back to our house for a garage after party. drove to the adjacent city to hang with folks sunday morning, then came home and watched the extended edition of the lord of the rings: the two towers. i fell asleep during the last hour or so, but i just watched it last weekend, so i'm okay with that. (my partner missed watching it, which is why i rewatched.)

going alcohol-free until valentine's day, which should be a good little reset.

  • i wanted something light and short, so i listened to mindy kaling’s second book, “why not me?” plenty of laughs, and it made my five hour car trip feel a lot less awful.

  • figuring out the right clothing for the temperature is a learning curve for sure!

  • picked up the new foster dog, coco on saturday. she’s acclimating pretty well, considering she went from a free roaming outdoor only dog on 17 acres to a downtown indoor dog on 1/3 of an acre. my old man australian shepherd is having a harder time accepting her, but we’re getting there with short 5-10 minute intros where he’s on leash so i can redirect when he gets too in her face. the little chihuahua mix has always been good with other dogs, so no surprise that they’re interacting really well.

coco goes to the vet later today, and fingers crossed there’s no major issues.

update: she’s in perfect health! no parasites, healthy weight, good teeth and eyes.

  • ooblets and fire watch are not difficult or lengthy games, but both were so enjoyable. i think casual games often get the short end of the stick unless there’s some online element a la animal crossing.
