Sounds like someone else has already explained the critical support thing to you, I didnt really understand the term at first either and English IS my first language, so I actually understand this one.

I hope you can see that my comrade's defensive stance is because of past experiances and not anything personal.

I actually dont disagree that people here sometimes make unfair assumptions about the person they're talking to. I remember the human and understand where they're coming from and why that assume that though (past experiences with people who are like that). I wish my friends would try to remember the human more too, but I get why they can forget because of their experiences. I hope that makes sense.

My goal is creating the material conditions for revolution, and for that to happen the global south needs to come out from under the imperialist heel of the United States and its allies. It is a completely necessary step towards communism. That does not mean I think that Russia is communist like you said before. It just means that I think the US and allies are the current greatest evil in the world and I support things that weaken its power. That is pretty much the ML view of geopolitics at its root. If the US and Russia were both equally or near-equally bad imperialist powers doing equally bad things around the world, I would feel differently, but they aren't.

And I don't think there's any evidence that Putin is an insane megalomaniac to that extent. With Hitler there was evidence, it was always part of his ideology. You have been lied to about Yugoslavia. In fact, the bombing of Yugoslavia would have been one of the atrocities I brought up, considering the 500 civilian deaths and 6000 civilian wounded that resulted from it. American oligarchs are barely infighting. At the end of the day, the capitalist class has class solidarity, even if they quibble over abortion. There's a communist term (you say you are fine with actual communism, so you shouldnt have a problem with it since its a term Marx invented) called "dictatorship of the bourgeoise". A lot of people do this, I used to do this. Its basically the linguistic norm in America. Back when I was an Obama liberal, it was because I thought he supported my social democratic values (Berniecrat, basically) that I held at the time because he was good at pretending he did. And I definitely thought I was "the left" then. I've moved left from there since then. But I do absolutely identify with your position and why people saying "dunk on libs" might be offputting to someone who has always thought that liberal meant left. But yeah, by Liberal we mean the original definition of the term, "person who supports capitalism".

Eehhhhhhh I'm going to disagree that there's much nuance to this but I dont totally know the history of the emote lol. Maybe someone else does. I think its just something people use to respond to outright fascist opinions (which sometimes, there is an unfortunate crossover between the opinions of a centrist liberal and a fascist, which is where the saying "scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds) comes from. I really don't understand how someone can come the conclusion that NATO is a good thing? :/ They've carried out some absolutely awful military operations that have taken many lives. They are not, in any way, a "defensive alliance" and have never acted like one. Like, the bare minimum that I ask is "Russia and NATO are both bad" (and thats not even wrong, its just said in bad faith sometimes). But outright saying NATO is good? :/
