Better headline: the richest 1% of Americans have more combined wealth than the bottom 90% of Americans.

I have regular conversations with normal people all the time. If they use “female” in reference to a human being to my face, I’m calling them on it. It is 100% an incel dog whistle. If they continue, that’s a clear indication that they are not a person I want to regularly be around.

Well, minimum 2 months per employee plus the 4 weeks. Let’s figure an average salary of $80k. 6000 employees with an average tenure of 4 years. Let’s go ahead and round that to 3 months salary. So he’s paying the equivalent of 1500 employee’s average salary. That works out to about $120m.

I think my salary estimate is low there, and I have no idea what the tenure of the employees would be. Either way, not a small sum for a company that’s barely treading water.

There’s no motivation to do the work. Students that work hard get a diploma. Students that don’t do anything…still get a diploma.

We have students who can barely read and can’t do basic math, but they still get a diploma. Why do work for the same result?

This isn’t helped by the fact that in many school districts it isn’t possible to hold a child back. We literally have students entering high school that haven’t done anything since 3rd grade but have been advanced to the next grade anyways. Then we get surprised Pikachu face when they can’t do the things they need to graduate.

That actually ignores the whole “make up credit” classes where answers to every question are literally a google search away.

I literally had a student in one of my math classes who pasted a “couldn’t find results for…” as an answer to a homework question because they had mistyped the question.

I’m a teacher. This is very false. The issue is that being taught in schools and being learned in schools are completely different things. Between No Child Left Behind and IDEA, schools are being incentivized to graduate students regardless of the learning done in the school.

I know for a fact that these skills are taught in 6-8th grade social studies classes, as well as digital literacy classes. Hell, I teach 2 classes that are entirely based around critical thinking.

I could. But the irony still stands that by Apple being forced to change connectors I’m going to have to go out and buy new cables. Honestly, though, I agree with the EU, this is a change that Apple should have done sooner. They were one of the first computer companies to completely dump the old USB connector in their laptops for the space saving. I wish they would have moved to USB-C across the board at that point.

From what I’ve heard, they were holding out to try to move from Lightning connectors to completely wireless charging with no ports.

iPhones can tether via a wifi connection, so that’s not necessary. Does drain the battery a bit faster, though.

Mind if I ask why?

The irony is that I have a bunch of lightning cables because I’ve been using an iPhone with AirPods for years. So when I finally upgrade, a bunch of my old cables will end up as e-waste.

I hate it when boomers, specifically, say this. My grandfather, who is Silent Generation, will tell you that he’s gotten more liberal as he’s gotten older. I listened to minority populations and then came out and it’s turned me more leftist.

I worked in avionics for more than a decade starting in the mid-00s. It was well-known that SpaceX lured young, naïve aeronautics engineering grads with the promise of working at the next NASA, worked them 80+ hours a week for less than market compensation for 3-5 years, then fired them as they inevitably burned out.

I remember having the light-measured-in-watts discussion years ago when LED lights were still considered a novelty. Of course, this was with a videographer who actually understood the issue. He complained that it wasn’t a good idea to limit car headlights based on their wattage, which is how all the laws at the time were written. 5 years later, suddenly there were LED headlights blinding everyone.

Ada wanted to give them a chance because they’re very queer friendly, and we want to try to maintain queer unity and all.
