  • We removed the headphone jack for your benefit.

We kept the lightning cable for your benefit.

We didn’t increase the base model’s memory for your benefit.

  • That’s precisely correct. Even if you tested against a 16GB non-Mac machine in that price point ($1799), you would probably see similar results. This is something Apple has been trying to convince people against for decades and at one point they may have been at least somewhat correct.

  • And at this point the cost difference couldn’t possibly be so stark that they have to make it a great leap in price. I think they offer these 8GB models for non power-users. People doing spreadsheets and presentations all day, but honestly even then 8GB of memory just seems like they’re cheaping out.

  • I have the opposite problem on Windows, my computer stops running whenever it goes to sleep. I think it’s Nvidia-related, but I’m not entirely sure how to track it down. The errors I get are not very helpful.

  • I’m not sure if any of this information is useful, code-server doesn’t support installing the Remote-SSH extension. There are alternative methods to connect to environments, I personally think Remote-SSH is ideal.

  • Sounds like regulators or lawmakers, potentially the people who are communicating with Omegle about child safety on the platform are also saying Omegle needs to change to fit the needs of new legal systems. EU and the UK come to mind, but also the so-called “Kids Online Safety Act” in the US, which is an absolute joke when there are so many other protections lawmakers should be codifying. Instead, they hijack a supposed child safety act to prevent significant and vital knowledge from being shared online. More details in this Verge article.

  • Yeah, Federal law is pretty lax on any privacy protections. You would think that wiretapping laws would carry over into digital communications such as cellular usage, but I guess that doesn’t make much sense to the legal experts that run this country.

  • This is such an awesome question! I never gave it much thought but the things we focus on, or that to which we give attention, has some amount of value in our minds. By giving it value, we increase its importance. While it may be an inanimate or abstract object or concept that has received our focus, by increasing its importance it could have lasting effects on the future relevance of that particular object or concept.

  • As basic as the instructions might be, super useful stuff for bulk operations in here. Thanks for the post!

  • Not sure what’s worse, NFTs or the absolute lack of concern most who invest in them have for things like the wellbeing of others

  • Why remove the bloat? That’s where all the core kernel utilities live!

  • I can’t tell you the number of times I have in fact edited files using vim even with a WM and DE. I just treat my laptop like it’s a server I connect directly to now

Oh, or even better how many times I used the terminal in VSC to vim edit something 😂

  • I was going to say tie a piece of cord or rope to the wireless mouse and tether it to your desk, somehow your suggestion seems like a more practical solution

  • Performance-tweaked, because Microsoft is incapable of performance tweaking their own operating system

  • Toxic behavior has a double-edged consequence. It both tends to make the person responsible feel like they act that way naturally, and it also makes people respond to them as if they act that way naturally, it becomes a feedback loop. So much of the perpetual cycle is subconscious.

Sometimes it takes a hell of a lot of patience and a step back to say, “you aren’t toxic but your behavior certainly is.” It’s moments like those where maybe, hopefully they can realize that behavior is something for which they need to seek proper help.

  • I swear IBM has the Sadim Touch.

  • You’ve read your last complementary article this month. The second Library of Alexandria doesn’t burn down, it gets locked behind a paywall.

  • Windows has lost a ton of market share, unfortunately it gave much of that market share to MacOS
